Ok, gonna try a Freeview box to see if I can cure my reception problems.

Out of the two boxes in the subject, which is considered best in areas of poor analogure reception (if there's any reasonable correlation between analogue & digital terrestrial reception...)

I'm looking at these two becuase they seem to be the most highly regarded features/reception-wise from a quick scan through the groups, would appreciate advice from anyone who's got exprience of them.

    thanks

SetPal (Labgear, Triaxx, Daewoo) are highly recommended if you live in a weak signal area (digital not analogue). Also its cheaper than the two top end boxes you mentioned.

Nokia is a nice box, reasonable quick. The Panasonic TUT20 is quicker though but not so nice a remote. The NetGem looks cool, is fast and you can browse the internet with it. Its £109 from Empiredirect. As the Nokia is £130 I'd get the NetGem. Also its easy to update if your on the internet via the NetGem website.

Goodmans GB3 is due out any time now with twin scart. The GB2 thats out now has twin scart I believe. If you can afford it, get the NetGem for £109 IMO.

Ordered from Empire Direct but looks like they have no stock... Might have to stump up the extra and buy elsewhere

But as there's no John Lewis in Leicester anymore, i'm going to have to give Rackhams a go, since the local Sainsburys doesn't stock them

    Hi

As I understand the current position, EmpireDirect are more expensive than John Lewis.

However, both are out of stock at time of writing. (JL had 10+ in stock on Friday 6th June!)

JL are offering free postage until 16th June 2003 on all orders over £30. Also, click this link for a £15 voucher: http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/pan...294E8F22444CB9F388B33A970F564&CK=true&ad=4342

Summary of the above is the Netgem delivered to your door for only £114. Not bad.

Now, here's hoping my Netgem was allocated to me before they ran out.....

    Regards
    Andrew

PS To mods~ Hope the tradedoubler thing is OK. If not, please delete the reference.

Well John Lewis still show 9 in stock right now.

I ordered from Empire Direct because they were the cheapest price on offer - not having known about the JL voucher it was going to be saving of £20-ish... that said, i want the damn thing now, not 10 days time so i'm gonna see what the sit is with JL

Ordered from JL and cancelled Empire order...

Then got e-mail today for a verification request of the order, saying that it had been held as part of a random security check, and that if i didn't call them within 48 hours they'd cancel the order.

So called them up, gave the info and vented my disgust.

I mean, i could understand it if my CC company had raised concerns about the order, but if they okay it, I don't see what JL's problem is. THey're just going to annoy people whose order they've held - or cancelled if the customer doesn't have the chance to read their e-mail for a couple of days...

One thing about the Netgem- for fast firmware upgrades it needs the USB to ethernet adaptor- how much is this?

Wheras the Nokia uses a RS232 connetion, so I can upgrade from my laptop.

I would prefer the DSL/laptop upgrade rather than over the telephone.

Of the approved adapters, the cheapest I've seen is the D-link from Dabs.

Laptop is only more convenient if you've got one in the first place...
