Netgear router not enough sockets.

I have a Netgear DG834GT Router which has 4 Lan sockets, three connected to desktops and the fourth connected to PS3.
Now I want to stick with wired for the above devices but I would like to add a Western Digital 1TB My Book World Edition for Backing up and storing HD movies for playing on the PS3 and desktops.
I guess I need some type of Network switcher so I can add the Network drive via cable but I am not sure what i need.
Would this do the job?
Would it work with my Router above?

Thanks for any advice.

P.S

I also have a wired version of DG834 without wireless feature, could this be used?

Yep, I've done it with a 605 and it works fine.

Suggest getting a 1G switch and connecting everything that has a 1G interface to it and leave everything else on the router that way data moves 10 times faster between kit.

Hi Andy
If I purchased the Netgear GS608 and plugged all my devices into that and a RJ-45 cable from that to my Router I would get the higher transfer rates?
They are called Gigabit but what speed am I likely to get?

Thanks

yes thats how it works

ethernet is about 90% efficient as a protocol (versus 50% for wireless) so you could get 900Mbps ....except the slowes thing in the chain now becomes the client

usually on consumer desktop PCs etc, the limitation is therefore the harddrive e.g. how fast it can put data on the wire - expect 30-50MB/s depending on drive...so 250-400Mbps out of your new 1000Mbps ethernet :smashin:
