Netgear - multiple access point home network

I am trying to set up my home network which consists of the following:

Netgear DGND3700 - Used to connect to TalkTalk 8Mbps internet
Netgear WN802T - Used as an access point
Netgear DGND3300 - Used as an access point
Netgear XAVB5501 Powerline Homeplug x 2
Netgear XAVB5004 Powerline Homeplug

I'm trying to set up the following:

DGND3700 connected to the internet, a homeplug (via ethernet in a normal LAN port, not the WAN port) and my PC (via ethernet)
WN802T connected to a homeplug (via ethernet)
DGND3300 connected to a homeplug (via ethernet)

The end goal being that the DGND3700, WN802T and DGND3300 will eventually be positioned around the house, transmitting the same SSID using different channels to avoid inteference and allowing me to roam using a laptop, iPad & iPhone.

For now though, I have temporarily (For testing purposes) set up all three devices in the study as follows:

DGND3700: IP 192.168.0.1 - SSID kes1 - Channel 1 - Up to 145 Mbps
WN802T: IP 192.168.0.2 - SSID kes2 - Channel 6 - Up to 145 Mbps
DGND3300: IP 192.168.0.3 - SSID kes3 - Channel 11 - Up to 130 Mbps

The DGND3700 is being used as the DHCP server (I've set the range from 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.90). DHCP is disabled on the DGND3300. All three devices are set up for wireless access with WPA2 security.

Now, as each device is temporarily using a different SSID, I can use my laptop to connect wirelessly to a device that I choose, with the following results (Displayed in the "Network and Sharing Center" on Windows 7):

kes1 - Active network correctly identified as kes1 and joins the "Home network" home group. I have internet access and can see shared files on the desktop PC.

kes2 - Active network correctly identified as kes2 and joins the "Home network" home group. I have internet access and can see shared files on the desktop PC.

kes3 - Active network takes a while to decide that it is an "Unidentified network" which is a "Public network" so it hasn't joined the "Home network" home group. I don't have internet access and I can't see shared files on the desktop PC.

Obviously, I'm happy with the first 2, but the third connection has me stumped. If I leave my laptop connected to this "Unidentified network" for between 5 and 10 minutes, eventually, it correctly identifies kes3 and joins the "Home network" home group. I can then see the internet and files on my desktop PC. Furthermore, if I set my wireless priorities so that kes3 is first on the list, when I reboot the laptop, it connects to kes3 straight away, so I have internet access and I can see the desktop PC with no delay. However, if I connect to kes1 or kes2 and then go back to kes3, I get the 5-10 minute delay again before the network is correctly identified.

Does anyone have any idea why it takes my laptop several minutes to identify kes3? If I can't resolve this then I can't use it as an access point for roaming as when I move to that part of the house the switchover to the new access point will take several minutes (Obviously, not ideal).

I'd appreciate any thoughts that anyone may have.

Many thanks in advance,

Keith

Sounds a bit more like a Windows issue than a networking issue proper. You network setup looks OK to me.

What O/S are you using...? Have you/can you test with another client device...?

If you don't get any joy here, it may be worth enquiring in the relevant O/S forum. Doubtless the mods will move the thread if you ask nice and offer beer.

Thanks. I'll do some research from the OS side of things.

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on both laptop and desktop.

I'll see if I can do some testing using a wireless USB adaptor in the PC.

Thanks again.
