hi Steve, its usually g&b ie 802.11b or 802.11g I have aways selected g&b. I had my 360 connected to a wireless adaptor which is basicaly a box thats wireless and this has its own ip address then you connect a standard ethernet cable from the adaptor to the ethernet socket on the 360. I used to stream video from my pc using winxp MCE quite well on 54mb. If you are using MS wireless adaptor I am sure its only 54mb anyway, you would only need 108mb of you had a wireless adaptor that can handle that speed.

My son got the Xbox 360 today and wants to connect to xbox live. We have the same router as you but when he tried to connect today (using the wireless adaptor) he was unsuccessful.

Hope you don't mind me imposing on your thread but could you please tell us how to set it all up as he is desperate to have a go. :lease:

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

    from the router ( http://192.168.0.1 ):

    1) Select "Wireless Settings"
    2) Name your wireless connection (also make sure region is set to Europe)
    3) Select mode g&b
    4) Under Wireless Access Point select "Enable Wireless Access Point" and Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID).
5)Under "Security Options" select WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key).
    6) Enter a password and select apply.

To connect your console to a wireless network:

Turn on your console and any wireless networking devices (such as a router or an access point).
Attach the wireless networking adapter to the back of your console as described above.
Go to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard to enter your network settings.
If all settings are correct, exit the System area. Your console should now be connected to your wireless network.

    Ciao

Can't you do XBox live without the use of the XBox wireless adaptor? Are they expensive to buy?

You should use the network cable instead, but wireless may be more practical for some.

The official wireless adapter (very good) is £60, I think. Cheaper on ebay.

Ethernet wireless adapter is £20, maybe less.

I'm getting a little confused here.

We have a wireless router and use two PC's with it.

Do we have to buy anything else in order to connect to XBox live?

You either need to connect to the router from your 360 via a "wireless" adapter or via a network cable.

Just looking at the wireless option myself, but my experience with wireless and online gaming is not brilliant to say the least.

    Thanks.

Right then, we have the wireless router in the title of the thread. How do we connect to XBox live using this router without the use of an xbox wireless adapter?
