Don't know if you are interested in a TP Link VR900 modem router. It's basically on par with the ones you are looking for. Only difference is it does t run custom firmware. But the stock is pretty damn solid. I am building my own router atm so won't need a modem and router combi any more.

Didn't realise its that price now. Well I wouldn't be looking to shift it at around £80 as it is a very decent wireless AP

no probs mate thanks for the bumps ideally want the netgear or asus anyway no doubt the TP link is a good router just shows how quickly prices fall when it comes to technology and will probably get a bargain when the sales start if I can't source one through forum members

I would get the ac56u, 66u or 68u. As the Merlin firmware is more superior to dd-wrt in terms of stability. Some can be picked up from ebay.

as i said earlier i am not willing to pay more than what previous members have sold for and the one i linked to was only 6 months old and less than £100 sorry your price is too steep for me I will hold out for hopefully better offers and has stated previously will probably pick one up from the sales which should see netgear prices plummet especially with the latest security scare

auction has now finished and seller will probably see approx £75 after fees that is for a 3 months old item as stated to richard-wong these products no longer hold their value as technology progresses they quickly become obsolete

ASUS DSL-AC68U have stronger wifi signal ..but if u have long distance line connection..u can have problem with this router..read this Anyone Using an Asus DSL-AC68U - Page 105 - Overclockers UK Forums

    copy some questions
alright folks. I am wondering if I should get the DSL-AC68U. I have the TP LINK VR900 which is a solid performer. no issues and lightning fast.

Now reason for going to ASUS is i want to have VPN server running off my fibre connection.

    Questions are:
    1) Can i run merlin firmware on the DSL version of this?
    2) Is the asus better performer or equal to TP LINK VR 900 in terms of fibre and wifi (regardless the fact that it supports VPN server)
    3) are there any issues with this that I need to be aware of (plusnet fibre) such as poor fibre sync rate or unstable connection.

Answers to some of your questions:

    1) nope. Only Asus dsl-ac68u firmware can be used.

    2) I can't be sure if it is better. I believe many people find the TP-link vr900 more stable although I can't confirm first hand.

    3) When using the Asus. I lost roughly 9mbps from my downstream sync rate. It would randomly reboot also. The thread is filled with similar issues. Some are lucky and it remains stable on their line now, many are not. I think it boils down to how short your line is and how good it is.
