"...considerably better than the likes of The People vs. O.J..."
      Surely not!
Cheers Cas, for the impassioned review. I'll give it a whirl. Make a change for a Netflix outing to not overstay its welcome of late.

Same story different kids. Just some context:

The most famous black kids accused of rape story is the scottsboro boys. I saw a documentary on that one and I am very sad to say that although the name rang a bell in the back of my mind, it was the first time I had fully heard the story which highlighted the share insanity of race relations back then. For as bad as they are now (which until it is acknowledged has no chance of getting any better), they were next level awful back then.

      First paragraph on Wikipedia:
The Scottsboro Boys were nine African American teenagers, ages 13 to 20, falsely accused in Alabama of raping two white women on a train in 1931. The landmark set of legal cases from this incident dealt with racism and the right to a fair trial. The cases included a lynch mob before the suspects had been indicted, all-white juries, rushed trials, and disruptive mobs.
      ....
The the most understated (to the point of farce) statement is the final paragraph:

It is commonly cited as an example of a miscarriage of justice in the United States legal system.
      ....
      Yeah you think?

Hi @Casimir Harlow. Thanks for the review. Your statement that:

It's almost a shame that these weren't slightly better designed antagonists, as it comes across as nonsensical that anybody would have just arbitrarily chosen to be so dogged about punishing these individuals.

That sounds reasonable until you read about the Scottsboro boys. I'm not sure it's possible to be so sure about this if you know about that case. Couple that with modern bias theory which goes some way to show why we cling onto falsehoods even after it is clear that what they believe in is indeed false.

      Thanks.

Netflix need to up their game a lot now that they increased subscription to £12.
They cant do proper sound for some reason, video quality lower the Apple, but somehow they decided they are the best and want more money.
Methinks I am going to pay only from time to time and bingewatch what I want.
I wonder why piracy still exists.......

Well,i doubt they can top the moustache twirling vilains, pardon, cops,in "Detroit",but it appears that the historical revisionism, white shaming and general snowflakery are not abating.I wonder if they mention that the wrongfully convicted boys would get at least 41 million dollars 25 years later and apparently the producers thought that a more multifaceted, contextual, objective, factual, balanced and less black and white(no pun intended) dramatisation would belittle the plight and the unjust sentencing of the the teenagers.

Thanks Cas, gave this a viewing based on your review.

Very powerful stuff and almost makes you hate humanity.

      Great little mini series.

What a disgusting post... And had you bothered watching it you wouldn't need to ask that question, as yes they do mention the damages paid. As if that somehow makes what these poor children went through worthwhile.

Thanks @Casimir Harlow, I watched this over the weekend and it was great, like you said the child actors are truly superb and convey the gravity of what they are going through so well.

Id recommend this to anyone, apart from people who share views with the idiot above.

I watched the Netflix documentary about this a few years ago, does this add anything if you have already watched that and know the full story?

I watched this last night... very interesting and compelling viewing. The final episode in particular was tough to watch. Some excellent performances throughout, great casting too.

      8/10 from me.

Yeah, absolutely it does. You get to see the affect of prison on the kids. The Korey Wise part of the story is heartbreaking.

Just read that. Note the part at the end where Trump (in 1989) took out a page in a newspaper stating he wants the death penalty to be brought back to be used on these 'muggers & rapists'. Just as well that never happened considering they were all innocent in the end eh?

      Thanks for the review Cas.
We just finished it tonight, powerful, heartbreaking drama.
Those poor kids, ep4 was tragic/fantastic piece of work.
Excellent direction/production/cast and moving soundtrack, downloading as I type.

Regarding the money, after watching the Korey episode, no money in the world is ever going to fix the psychological damage.

How could the detectives live with themselves, I appreciate the pressure, but how could you do that (felt the same anger when watching In the Name of the Father).

Finished watching this last night and thought it was brilliant.
I hadn't heard of the "Central Park Five" prior to this, but what a powerful, shocking story.

The only thing I would have liked to have seen would be
what punishment (if any) the police officers/detectives received.

To address one of the earlier posts... yes the boys got a lot of money out of it, but after seeing what they went through, how the system let them down so horrifically, they deserved every penny.
