I really enjoyed this. Those vicious little flying buggers were quite well done and looked pretty scary. Good solid cast and well acted on the whole.

Admittedly I'm about 20 minutes from the end, but so far would give it a solid 7/10.

I've not seen A Quiet Place, would that be worth a watch too?

Defo check out A Quiet Place! It’s on NowTV and will probably land on Netflix eventually; it’s interesting because I wonder whether having NOT seen it enhanced your enjoyment of The Silence because it feels that little bit more original.

Yes, I dare say you are correct on that.

Isn't this "doubling down" another 'Americanism' that's creeping in to our language? Surely the British term is "doubling up".
'For free' seems to be firmly entrenched here now instead of just 'free', there are of course many more examples.
I love America and its peoples and have visited many places there but I would like our language to stay undiluted by 'americanisms' (is that a word?) o_O

      hey everyone, caught this yesterday.
      Thoughts?

A Quiet Place is a better film but I do love Tucci, anything he stars in is worth a punt.
      Unrated actor in my book.
I will use the word *Shhh* when my GF asks for some money in future. :D
Good 7/10 (The girl playing Ally is the star for me)

      Enjoy.

I thought it got better as it went on and agree with Cas's review that when it got going it didn't have time to explore some of the more interesting ideas it raised. I'd have like to seen more of..

..the quirky ways to tempt the beasties to their death, the wood chipper was a great start to this, would have loved to see some more, but didn't really go anywhere.

Also the cult group using a Smartphone vest to attract attention to the main family was a neat idea. But again, this was one scene near the end that lead to a quick wrapping up of the film. This disparate cult group were introduced a bit late in the game for me.

Also agree with the above about seeing Quiet Place may alter your perception of The Silence. But for me, its Bird Box that I watched first, which treads a very similar path, so there wasn't too much new for me in The Silence..

Tucci is a favourite actor and he does pragmatic in his sleep (see Conspiracy) but your comprehensive review, Cas, has given me a greater sense of forboding than this film apparently can.
I'll probably watch it still for Tucci when there's little else.

I'll give this a chance as Tucci is great in anything. Not a priority, but looks definitely worth checking out.

Not bad but seemed to jump to the end as though they ran out of ideas or budget but overall ok, personally I didn’t think A quiet place was anything spectacular so maybe that’s just a me problem.

It's following the Quiet place , Bird Box trend..... personally not been overly keen on any of them and while i appreciate the actors in this film they don't save it from the script. I did manage to watch it all but knew it was struggling when i starting taking the **** out of it with my son after the 20 min mark, dire IMO.

Jesus what a colossal waste of time. Cinema Sins will have a field day with this!

Someone commented that it jumps to the end out of nowhere. I suspect perhaps they were half way through filming and then ‘A Quiet Place’ came out and they just gave up and filmed a naff ending.

I didn’t care about any of the characters and in the end I was rooting for the beasties

And what was with that convenient storm drain that went through the security fence?! The old lady can’t have been that concerned about intruders. So much more annoyed me but that was comical

Heartily agreeing with all your points.

For me it’s the way they say “Lego’s” which drives me up the wall. We all know the plural follows that of sheep in that it’s simply one “Lego” or a large quantity of “Lego”?!?

Not as good as Quiet Place but decent enough. Enjoyed it, 6-7 rating from me.

Like all the casting in this especially daughter, mum & dad. All good actors.

I'd still give this a 7, although a close 6. When I posted above I thought I had about 20 minutes left, but actually I had about 3.

It could have done with being a bit longer and as others have said they did rush to the end.

Agree. Thought it was a waste of time. Shortly after the drain, Tucci' character on spur of the moment finds a brilliant way to attract and eradicate them. Later in film resorts to whirling a pointy stick. Why not just drive around towing the machine?
Tucci is one of those actors I will watch in anything, think he is brilliant but this just fell flat.

Enjoyed this more than Quiet Place, felt it explained far more and preferred how it didn’t take the necessity of being quiet to the extreme.
