Well that was refreshing to watch, a film about real life superheroes.
Woody and Costner have chemistry but don't let the slow pace stop you from watching this gem.
A untold story of the real guys that brought down Bonnie & Clyde, fact is sure weirder then fiction. I googled Frank Hamer after finishing the film and what a interesting character.

Story is quite simple, 1000 agents can't catch the notorious pair so the governor (the Misery Kathy Bates, that still gives me the chills with her knocking those ankles out with the sledgehammer)
Calls up two washed ex Texas Rangers to track and kill the pair. Now these guys that society have pardoned and now forgotten about are called up for action. Woody and Costner play complex, war scarred individuals but carry the film with flair, banter and some wit. Deeper into the film and we see the differences between both about life and death. One more forgiving than the other.

      9/10 for me.....
I will buy the 4k disc now doubt, would be a nice addition to any collection...

      Peace.

      :D

Thanks for this, Cas. I'll definitely give it a watch.

Can I make a suggestion? Although you mention it is in DV HDR and with an Atmos soundtrack, there's no mention of video and audio quality. I find this is as variable on Netflix as it is on UHD discs. The likes of Okja for example are stunning in every way, but series like Maniac are exceptionally noisy. The Atmos mix in Dark is incredible, while in Triple Frontier I found it very thin and flat. Similar to UHD, not all are created equal.

Are there any talks or suggestions your end to put (at least the 4K/UHD/Atmos stuff) streamed movies and series under the same sort of audiovisual spotlight as discs? I think this would give AV Forums reviews a really good USP.

Wouldn't need much. Just a couple of paragraphs.

      Thanks Cas

Sounds like it will appeal to myself and others that like me enjoyed both 'Mindhunters' & Manhunt: Unabomber

      Cheers!

      Thanks Cas,
Looking forward to this, was worried it would be another Netflix average film, but glad to read otherwise.
Can’t go wrong with Mr Costner, fantastic actor/director.

Yes, it always comes as an afterthought to getting these reviews up asap, but I do try to include note where the picture/audio quality is less than stellar (some of Netflix's productions like Hold the Dark as simply too dark, despite - or perhaps because of - Dolby Vision) or where it's harder to find the 4K versions (cough*Amazon*cough). These are still, in essence, 'movie' reviews, but I will try and spend a little more time on the A/V where I can.

I see it was filmed with Panavision Millennium Dxl and Red Weapon 8K cameras and it shows. The Atmos mix is very good as well with good use of music. Despite the slow pace it maintains momentum without getting boring.

I watched this last night and I thought it was excellent. Costner and Harrelson do a great job playing parts which evidently come naturally to them - grumpy old men on a mission.

I found the focus of this film on the Texas Rangers, rather than on Bonnie and Clyde to be quite brave and something which worked. It de-glamorised Bonnie and Clyde, as it should do, and it was genuinely shocking to see the adoration which the public had for those brutal murderers at the time.

The movie looked good too, alebeit with the usual poor black levels as is common to everything Netflix make with Dolby Vision. Strong old school score too from Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption).

Still rather amazes me too that we can see big budget high quality, brand new movies like this on Netflix. This is better than anything you would pay £15 a ticket for in the cinema at the moment.

Watched this last night. A pleasant surprise. The two leading actors were fantastic but you would not expect anything less. Old school music was great. Miss this type of score.

Some dialogue was mumbly as happens more and more these days.

Yep. Sometime back, The Times was inviting film reviews (any film) with the proviso that it be no more than four words long.

They published my suggested ‘Writer takes a break’.....

Watched last night, was good but I did find the slow pace a little hard going, especially the first half, Costner and Harrelson were great.

Watched this last night with the missus and we both enjoyed it hugely. Looked amazing on 4K Dolby Vision with great performances throughout, especially Costner and Harrleson both of whom I admire greatly. Well worth a watch and an easy 8/10.

I really enjoyed it. Less action than I presumed but great. The sets, clothes and cars were fantastic. You could tell there was real love for the cars throughout as well, multiple references and certain shots of the V8.

Watched this last night and really enjoyed it.

As already mentioned, great to see the story from the cops' side - it's all too easy to show the "Bonnie and Clyde as folk heroes" side of things... and Harrelson & Costner pull it off really well.

      I loved
the end shootout - the moment before the bullets start flying where Bonnie and Clyde look like frightened kids put the ending in a whole new light, again avoiding the traditional "bad guys get what they deserve" treatment. It actually makes you feel sorry for them for a moment.

Loved it! 9/10 looked gorgeous in 4k and did I see it cost only $49 million to make, money well spent considering i thought I heard somewhere each episode of the crown has a $100m budget.
