    Hi,

    Just wondering if Netflix is better (picture and sound quality wise) via. the app in a 4K smart TV or through an Apple TV 4K? I couldn’t see a comparison online.

    Thanks...

    I’m just wondering in general. Has there ever been a comparison done? I would imagine the tv app is better as it’s on board the tv as opposed to Apple TV?

    Image quality wise I cannot see any difference in the four sources I have, different devices delivering the stream via their apps as long as it is 4K only. I assume it just provides the pipe to the TV (anyone??). (edit, my TV, what you have may be different)

    Caveat with mine is if HDR is involved, the version of LG I have, they never sorted the issues out and Netflix HDR is a bit of a hit or miss with the TV app. Apple gives me an option to SDR the feed. The UB820 allows me to make it usable.

    Sound wise I can only do 5.1 and its OK.

    There will be a difference;

    On TV: Capabilities are limited by the app and TV outputs regarding sound. For example I've not seen on TV apps the ability to switch/match frame rates depending on the content.

    On AppleTV;
    - Frame rate matching
    - Dynamic rate matching
    - All sound outputs including ATMOS
    - Active regular development and updates
