    Hi

I'm not really into the technical side of the plasmas or LCD's so I was hoping that some of you could give me your opinions and suggestions on what to go for.

    Budget: £2000 - £2500.
Used for: Cable TV, XBOX gaming, DVD, Videos.
Estimated usage per day: 4 - 6 hours.

I only need the TV with speakers. I really don't want to waste my money on this one.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies

I just bought a Sharp Aquos 30" LCD (LC30HV4E) and have to say I'm not impressed. Picture looks very "digital", with LCD smearing on some images.

It's going back to the store, to be upgraded to a Hitachi 42" plasma - which, IMHO, has a much better picture.

    Yeah

I've watched a plasma and the definition is superb with the contrast and stuff but TBH when watching the LCD's it looks blocky, dull colors. But then I was told that the plasma will need replacing within six months because of burn in - and also the blue phos. half life is less than the others - am really confused.......

Any other things to contribute anyone?

A plamsa won't need replacing after 6 months due to burn in - you only get burn in if you allow it to happen, whoever told you otherwise clearly hasn't got a clue :nono: As for half life brightness, you are talking 30000 hours + with todays screens which is a lot of viewing and, bearing in mind it happens very gradually, you'll never notice.

Try a search on the forum for Plasma V LCD - there have been a lot of threads in a similar vein over the months.

I think this type of question is a very hard one to answer as some prefer the look of plasma and some lcd.

I decided to go for a Sharp LC-32GA3E lcd because I did not feel that my room would be big enough to support a 42 inch plasma and from searching these forums it was clear that the gap between lcd and plasma screens was narrowing all the time.

I took the plunge without actually seeing the Sharp in the flesh so to speak as it was a brand new model but im glad to say I am really happy with my purchase.
However if at all possible it is a better option to go and demo screens that you are thinking of buying.

Take johndon's advice and do a search on these forums , it will give you a decent idea on how the screens behave when they get into the public's hands.

    Good luck

I have to laugh when I hear that people are told stuff like this. I have played my xbox on my panny PW6 for up to 8 hours in one session with no after image let alone burn in!

I have MTV etc on my screen most days if I just want background noise and my screen is on all day sometimes. No sign of any logos! Had the screen about 3 or so months now.

My friend also has a RP tv that he has had for 5 years, it gets used all the time with playstation/sky and even that has NO burn in! I think you reeeeeeally have to be going out of your way to make burn in become an issue.

I was looking at a Philips LCD recently - I don't know the model but when turned off it could be used as a mirror, and it had a picture frame around it.

Anyway, it had the sharpest, brightest and highest contrast image of any of the other LCDs or plasmas in the shop.

    I was really impressed.
