Need to switch to DVD/Hard Drive recorder - still using videos!

Hi all, my name is Mel B and I've just found you all by accident.

I'm hoping you lovely people can help me as I'm a 'novice' when it comes to DVD/PVR/hard drive recorders.

We currently have 2 video recorders and an ancient DVD/VCR combi (originally purchased to transfer old video camcorder recordings to DVD). We have a motorhome and used to have a video player which we'd take away with us to watch pre-recorded tv programmes, however, having now changed the motorhome for a smaller one we don't have room for the player anymore so have instead bought an LCD TV with built in DVD player for it.

At home we have a video recorder in the lounge (and a basic DVD player), the DVD/VCR combi in the bedroom, and the second video recorder in the kitchen for those occasions when s*ds law will dictate that there are 2 programmes on at once and we are going to be out, or when I want to watch a video whilst working in there. The videos and DVD/VCR combi don't have freeview so I'll need to change them anyway as I don't want to prat around with freeview boxes.

My TVs have freeview built in so I will be able to watch them independent of a DVD/hard drive recorder.

What I think I need is a hard drive recorder with a twin tuner so I can record 2 programmes at once (saving having to have 2 separate machines) with a built in DVD recorder so that I can transfer programmes recorded on the hard drive onto a DVD and therefore take the DVDs away with me in the motorhome.

I'm not bothered about a HD one as I don't have HD TVs but it must be quiet in operation as I hear some of the fans on these things are quite noisy.

Not wanting to spend a packet for the most 'super-duper' machine, just something that will do what I want without a fuss.

Forgot to say, we don't have Sky and have no plans to get it. We don't have a land-line so BT etc are no good to us either.

Thanks in advance - all suggestions gratefully received!

Welcome to the forum Mel B.

I think this unit will fill all your requirements.

It is a good quality unit and is very quiet.

Looks like a great machine, Gavtech, but does it allow you to record 2 channels at once, as required by the OP?:)

No - Its a compromise choice.

The other parameters rule out recommending the specialised HD twin tuner units.

... but I suspect we will not hear from Mel B again anyway.

I might have missed something? Why won't we be hearing from Mel B again?

Nothing missed. But it's been over a week.

Just a gut feeling that this will join the big pit of threads where people have invested time responding to no good use.

I'll be happy to be wrong.
