    Hi,

Is it necessary to replace the lamps used in rear-projection TV's after xxxx hours like you need to with front-projectors?

    TIA

Depends on the technology. RPTVs can be

    - 3 x CRT in which case there are no bulbs, just tubes. These do age and may need replacing but are typically long-lived. They may suffer phosphor burn if subjected to constant display of logo or other unevenly bright images.

    - LCD and DLP these do have bulbs, which do need replacing from time to time. (typically 2000 hours' use or so, but vary by manufacturer). But neither of these will suffer from any permanent damage from excessive brightness etc.

Having recently bought a DLP RP , And having a wife who watches it constantly, I am worried the lamp wont last long. Is there anywhere these lamps can be bought on the cheap???
