Hi, im looking for a new amp for my computer... yes my computer :) ... what i want to do is have a digital output from my computer to the amp/reciever, and have some speakers, possible 5.1 powered from the amp. so i would have a nice sound setup for my computer to watch ac5.3.1 tv shows and movies etc...

i think it sounds good but i dont know much about audio equipment.. so here is where i need the help, i need you guys to recommend a good amp for what i need, for around £100-200, my budget is very low, so the cheaper the better, as i am a student :)

oh yeah, do u guys think it would work well, computer digital: optical output > amp > speakers+sub, thanks in advanced! bye.

First off look at this http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/products/details/index~modelcode~YAM-AV59PACK.htm
5.1 off your PC will only work from DVD's placed in your DVD drive if you use the optical/co-ax SPDIF connection. To allow games and anything else to run in 5.1 (i.e. from your hard drive) you need to connect with 3x 3.5mm stereo jacks to Phonos for it to work, so therefore you need a AV amp with 5.1 direct in as the Yamaha has.
3 of these will be required. http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/PH200.html

hi, thanks for the advice. i had a set-up very similar to the one you pointed out before. this time around im looking for more of a custom setup, if u know what i mean?

i was thinking this sound card might help with what im trying to do: http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/hda_xplosion/index.shtml basically it says that it can up convert 2 channel stream to dts 5.1 etc... but what i need to know is will i still need to connect it to a amp using the 3.5mm to phono cables, even with this sound card? to get the full 5.1 with gaming and ac3.1.5 etc...?

basically i jsut want an amp, without speakers. thanks again.
