I'm going to buy a 2nd hand Meridian 565 DTS upgraded Processor.

I've decided this because I dont really like all the Jap stuff that keeps getting updated every 2 weeks. PLus the Meridian is a proper quailty piece of kit.

So, what Power amps do I use?

I was thinking of going for a Rotel RMB-1075 (THX).

    My speakers are:

    Mission 753
    Mission 75C
    Mission 751

All quite current hungry speakers that require good clean power to get them at their best.

I could go for 3 stereo Amps from the same company - (Cyrus, Arcam, NAD etc)

    Suggestions?

For meridian gear I would try and go for something a bit better than Rotel, I would try and find a Parasound 2205, Lexicon 512 (one on hififorsale.com) or a bryston 9bst for starters.

    Nice processor, enjoy! :)

You could try sticking with Meridian and go for a 558 5 channel power amp if you're lucky enough to find one s/h.
    Cheers,
    Chris.

I agree with gizlaroc, but I think the Rotel is good value for money and performance maybe you should try the beefier 1095.

Budget would be £1000. I dont mind second hand stuff as long as its mint. Therefore this gives me lots of different options.

I could buy a Rotel Brand new, I could buy smaller multiple high quailty power amps like the Cyrus ones.

I'm not fussed about big power ratings because my Cyrus 3 is more than powerful enough to power the Mission 753's, and it takes them very loud without runing out of puff.

I might give Musical Imgaes a call and ask them what they would use with the Meridian. They must have tried many combinations out.

I've used both the RMB1075 and the Parasound with my 565 and the Parasound was indeed better. Saying that I ended up with a combination of a Rotel 991 and a 993 which was cheaper than the Parasound and to me sounded just as good. Each to their own I guess!

Likewise I have a 991 and 993 with a recently purchased 568 and heard a significant improvement over my Rotel 1055 receiver. So whilst I know I can do better in terms of amplification the Rotels are not outclassed here.

If you can get hold of a 558.1 within your budget you won`t be disappointed. I use a 558.2 which is now discontinued and therfore prices for these will be falling, too. When I bought mine I compared it to the Bryston SST equivalent and the then-new Arcam P7. It blew both away.

I am in exactly the same position - about to get a Meridian 565 (7.1 version) or 561 (hope we're not after the same one C227  ) and am looking for a decent power amp. Am using my old Yammy AX620 for a power amp at the moment feeding the 565 in to the 6ch input on the Yammy. It was fine when I bought, I had nothing else to compare it to, but I just get the feeling it's not getting the best out of my speakers now. (perhaps that's an understatement  )

I want a crisp, dynamic sound, that while awesome for movies, can also just chill and give great music. I like Naim/Rega kit so I suppose I would be hoping for that sort of sound from the multichannel amp, though as AV is my thing - it must be a serious ass-kicker  . My good Hi-Fi is in another room.

Speakers are JM Lab Electra 905 / Cobolt CC 800 / KEF Cresta Rears
(soon to upgrade KEF's to some proper speakers - M&K SS150s, & Velodyne Sub).

I was also considering the Rotel 1075, but after reading several posts - the general opinion seems to be that while the 1075 is pretty good value, the performance isn't quite there.

I'm perfectly happy with 2nd hand kit.

    Considering Now:

    - Bryston 9B SST
    - Lexicon LX5 or LX7
    - Sherbourn 5/5210A
    - Parasound Halo A51

Would prefer an integrated, but may consider just getting a stack of Rega Exon Monos.

Any thoughts / experience of use?

I was once in the same position. I couldn't find a combo that I liked and in the end went the active route. I don't regret my decision but I was in the fortunate position of looking for speaker at the same time so previous investment was not wasted.
