I was just wondering how would one connect this up :

- TV - Sony 40W2000
- DVD player - Sony RDR-HXD860S
- Sky
- Receiver - Denon AVR1507
- Xbox 360 - coming in a few weeks *crosses fingers*

Sorry I'm such a numpty at these things...

Basically I want it so that:

1) I can get 5.1 from the TV and DVD player and 360
2) record TV to the player.
3) get best possible picture from everything lol
4) anything you lot might recommend that I should know

what cables and stuff do i need?

at the moment the DVD player is still boxed up, and Sky is connected via scart (ixos) as is my old DVD all-in1.

edit> just read the sticky lol.

2xSCART, 1xHDMI, 1xComponent, 1xLRPhono, 1xOptical, 1xCoaxialDigitalAudio

Picture:

DVD Rec (LINE 1 - TV) -> SCART -> TV (AV2SCART)
DVD Rec (HDMI) -> HDMI -> TV (AV4HDMI)
XBOX360 (ComponentOut) -> XBOX360Component -> AVR1507 (COMP-1)
AVR1507 (ComponentMONITOR) -> Component -> TV (AV3YPbPr)

Sound:
TV (LR Phono out) -> Red/White phono -> AVR1507 (TV/DBSAudioIn)
DVD Rec (Coaxial Audio out) -> Digital Coaxial -> AVR1507 (COAX-1DigitalIn)
XBOX360 (Optical Audio out) -> Optical lead -> AVR1507 (OPT-1DigitalIn)

Picture:
Sky (TV RGB out) -> SCART -> DVD Rec (LINE 3 in) [DVDManual - p24]
Sky to DVD rec via Scart: record sky
DVD Rec (LINE 1 - TV) -> SCART -> TV (AV2SCART)
why is this necessary, if I'm going to connect it via HDMI?
DVD Rec (HDMI) -> HDMI -> TV (AV4HDMI)
DVD rec to TV via HDMI: play dvd on tv
XBOX360 (ComponentOut) -> XBOX360Component -> AVR1507 (COMP-1)
360 to tv via component
AVR1507 (ComponentMONITOR) -> Component -> TV (AV3YPbPr)
why is this necessary?

just to clarify in red.

thanks for the reply, it's much appreciated!

1. Record and watch - the satelite signal is routed through the DVD

2. The second SCART may be necessary to view the satelite signal when the DVD Recorder is switched off (I don't think HDMI upconversion works when it's off)

3. Yes

4/5.
The second component isn't strictly necessary (i.e go straight from XBOX to TV otherwise), but it allows for future expansion as the TV only has one component input - the Denon will have two spare)

The HDMI lead doesn't work if it's off, so the only connection the Sky has with the TV is THROUGH the DVD recorder; The DVD recorder becomes transparent when it's off, and it's as if the two scarts are coupled together.

NOTE: look at page 24 of the DVD recorder's manual and it describes this method.
