Hi all hope you are well!

I have just bought Andrenochrome's BD800 which all being well he is delivering tommorow. :D
This is my first CRT PJ so as im sure you be aware that im very exited.
I know it's not exactly the bees knees of CRT's but it's a start and my aim is to try and get this running to the best of it's abilities and maybe in a year or two upgrade. Ironically it has cost me roughly the same amount as the new lamp that i would have needed for my sanyo z1 anyway,
I want it celing mounted and calibrated by the pro's ( still looking for quotes/availability guys ) BUT-for the time being i rather fancy chancing my arm and table mounting it and having a go myself until the pro's are available.
Now, is this a good idea? I'm pretty good at setting stuff up, and have a PDF of the manuals but what i really do not want to do is kill the Barco. Can this be done by simply twiddling with it and trying to get at least a watchable picture???

If so then i probably wont bother, i'll just buy a new lamp for the Sanyo and use that until i can get the Barco properly set up.
ANY help/advice however simple or complicated would be greatly appreciated as i really want to get on top of the CRT thing and maybe one day i'll be able to offer advice to others.

    Kind regards,
    John.

The BD800 is incredibly forgiving and if you follow the manual really quite easy.

The single most imortant thing is to get the projector in the right place.
Thay means the correct distance from the screen. (use the lens program and remember that you are measurng to the front mounting rail of the projector)
and getting it at right angles to the screen and centred. measure and measure agian.

After that just follow the manual

    Thanks for the start Roland.
Reverse parking a mini metro with 3 lenses into my living room will be the first job, :D

Many thanks to Andrenochrome for delivering it safe and sound.

Well it looks like a bad start :(

I powered it up and the blue tube is not coming on. It flashes a blue streak then nothing. The red and green one come on after a few seconds and seem fine.
I pressed adjust on the remote and a blue grid came up?
    Any ideas folks?
    Cheers,
    John.

I'm no Barco expert, but I wouldn't think the worst just yet. Without an input signal the background level of brightness in each tube is likely to be unequal. If you get a blue grid up, the blue tube is basically OK.

Try inputting a signal, from a DVD say, and see what you get.

    HI John,

This is exactly what happened when i first fired it up.

Crispybig has hit the nail on the head though as soon as i connected my dvd player to the Barco it all lit up fine.

    Hi all,
Can anyone send me the lens program? i downloaded it from the brother lynxxx site that andrenochrome posted to my desktop then when i opened it and double clicked set up it opened a window headed by the words 16 bit windows subsystem
    Followed by,
c:\WINDOWS|SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.. Choose close to terminate the application.

Anyone any ideas?? or is it easier to get a tape measure out, ha ha.
    Cheers for any help,
    John.

    Hi John,
If your having probs when running programmes that were designed for windows 9x you have to change the compatibility mode, right click on the lens programme (i assume it's an exe file) on the tabs choose "compatibility", under the compatibility mode header tick the "run in compatibility mode for:" & from the drop down list choose "windows 98/me, apply then see if it works.
Hope it helps & welcome the CRT club :smashin:
    Tim.

A quick note to let you know the LENs program works out of the box on Windows XP. (XP added better backwards compatability than windows 2000 for older programs due to complaints).

Hi folks and thank you all for the help.
Tim its a zip file and there is no option to choose compatibility when i right click it.
Glenn, thanks for sending it to me and thank you for the screenshots too. When i try to open it windows blocks it because it is "potentially harmfull" i know its not but it wont let me open it grrr. I went into the control panel and turned off windows firewall but it still won't let me open it-and ideas?

    Fibble, thanks for the advice.
Cheers guys i do appreciate your help and i'll promise to stick at it. This CRT challenge has only just begun. :D

    John,
I take it you have the latest version of the lens proggy?
Have you tried to unzip the file using winrar rather than the built in unzipper?
    Tim.

You can download the lens prog from Barco.

    http://www.barco.com/Presentation/en/downloads/lensprogram.asp

Although Barco in thier HC section now point at Ciniversum
    http://www.cineversum.com/homecinema/en/downloads/software.htm

Which also has the lens prog.

Crt projectors has an FAQ which also has a jpg listing all the barcos and calcs if you want to use a calculator :D
    http://www.crtprojectors.co.uk/barco_faq.htm

Get the right placement for the PJ in relation to the screen and all the tweaking becomes easier as you don't have to compensate for miss alignment.

However its also worth noting that the PJ has three screen width settings (done with shims to the lenses IIRC) and the easiest option here is to stick with what it was last set at if at all posible

    Hi Andrenochrome,
    Good! slow but sure.
Chris Frost paid me a visit on Tuesday to see about installation. Everything seems straight forward in that respect. I need to buy a few things scaler/new screen/cables etc before then which im keeping my eyes peeled for on the forums rather than just go out and buy them new, so it's going to take a while there is definate steady progress.

Chris gave me so much help and advice, cheers mate! at least now i know exactly which direction i am going in.

By the way i'm looking to replace the cover has anyone got a spare one for sale? Or if not the whole cover just the flap at the front as mine is missing i guess if i had the flap i could always respray it all.

    I'll keep you all posted,
    Cheers,
    John.

    Hi Tim,
No i still had the same problems.
But i have now decided that the easiest way to converge the Barco now is to pay somebody else

Sorry to dissapoint some of you but my fuse is too short and my hammer is large :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Hi Tom,
Ha ha no not the hammer yet thankfully.

Basically it is coming along but slowly due to funds, as in i cant just go out and buy new so im shopping around for stuff. I have managed to buy a good scaler (quadscan pro) and im now looking for a screen and cables etc. I'm still also looking for a newer/good condition casing for the Barco. As you know the black sprayed one is a bit tatty and i would rather replace that before she go's up or it'll look like a black tank on the celing :D

It's a bit of a slow process (sorry Chris i haven't forgot you) but i'll get there i just want everything to be right and in place correctly for when Mr Frost comes to do his stuff.

Thanks for asking Tom, you'll be top of my list for an invite to a screening and a few Yorkshire ales when it's ready.
    Cheers mate,
    John.

    Hi John,

With respect to the case either look to spray it a more suitable colour to your taste, it's very easy and very low cost. Also the upper case is removable, remove the pins in the hinges, so you can mount it on the ceiling and fit the upper case (when Floor mounted) at a later date. I sprayed my 801s case with Plasticote spray from B&Q and the result was very good, and the cost was under £10.

    Hi Glenn,
    Thanks for the reply.
Spraying is an option but the last one as it also has the pull down flap missing.

Anyone out there got a spare case to sell or even just the flap so i can spray mine :lease:
