Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm very new to the Home theatre setup and would like some advice please. :lesson::confused:

I have the below kit and need to know the best configuration for connecting all the equipment as well as the cables required.

I have read many threads on this and just confused my self even more!!

Your help is very much appreciated!

Here goes...............so I have...

*Toshiba TV (32AV800V) (see attachment)
*Sony Home Theatre System (HTTDW5500) (see attachment)
*Sony PS3 (HDMI and Digital Audio)
*Cable Decoder (HDMI and Digital Audio Connection)
*PC Audio (Analog Sound card)
*PC Video (2xDVI and 1xViVo Video In Video Out)

See pics attached.

This is what I think - please advise
All connecting to the Sony Home Theatre device

TV
HDMI - HDMI Cable
Component Video Input - Component Video Cable
AV Audio Out - Audio Cord

PS3 and Cable Decoder
HDMI - HDMI Cable
Digital Audio - Optical Digital Cable

the tricky one......

PC Video
PC ---> TV via DVI to VGA Cable

PC Audio
PC ---> Home Theatre via RCA Jack Stereo Cable

My questions are:

Is this setup of the connections and cables correct?
Is there a better way to do this?

Basically I want all the devices to be running at optimal audio/video performance.

Your time is very much appreciated!!!

Going by the attachment for the AV Receiver, would I be right in assuming that it does not process audio over HDMI hence the need for the additional digital audio cables? Sorry but a google search for that model number didn't reveal anything.

If you run into any problems with the PC, it might be worth changing the graphics cards and sound card so you can use HDMI (video) and spdif (audio). This shouldn't cost a lot.

Davepuma - Thanks for your reply.

With regards to your question, I have no idea and was basically following the diagram supplied by Sony for the Receiver connections.

Regarding the PC Video, if I change to a HDMI graphics card, I wont have enough HDMI connections on the Receiver. There are only 3x HDMI and they will be connected to TV, PS3 and Cable Decoder.

Also, with the PC Audio, the SPDIF - where will this connect to on the Receiver??

I have attached the links for the Guides supplied by Sony if that is any help.

HT-DDW5500 : Home Theatre Component System : Home Theatre System : Sony India

Again, sorry for the vagueness of my reply, but I have only followed the Sony Connections diagram.
