Hello
I have bought a new hard drive for my laptop, And I have taken the old one out and put the new one in, The problem is trying to install my o/s , My DVD drive is very temperamental and most of the time my laptop doesn’t recognise it, so without my DVD drive I cant put my o/s on. Is there another way to do it, I have an external DVD writer and another desktop computer if I can utilize them.
When i put in the hard drive and boot it up i get "NTLDR is missing" message
Any help apreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like the laptop is trying to boot to the hard drive which hasn't got any os on it so will give the error message you're seeing.
You should be able to go into the bios setup at start up and check the boot order. It should be set to boot to the external drive before the disk to allow you to boot the os disk, assuming it supports booting from external devices.

I can get into the bios , and i have set it to boot from dvd/cd drive (internal)
I dont see an option for external ( although it does say usb enabled)

Got it sorted, I bought a 2.5" caddie then cloned my own hard drive onto the new one, and its just a case of putting it in the laptop and its got all your files and folders the way you left them on your old hard drive:smashin: .
