    Ok, here is my problem:

I have some old Family footage on on tape which is in NTSC.
And I wanted to have converted to PAL.

I was told that if I bought a Samsung SV-5000W I could convert it into to PAL.

    So... I bought myself a Samsung SV-5000W.

    I connected the 2 VCR's. (Sony SLV-X9 & Samsung SV-5000W)
With tech-link scart cable. Has jacks in one end and a normal scart in the other.

anyway, I used my Sony VCR to play the tape, course it has NTSC playback. And I used the samsung to record.

I set the Input on "PAL" and output on "Through" on the samsung vcr.

And then I started to copy.

When I was done, I wanted to see how it turned out.
For some reason it didnt work.
    The picture kept blinking
What am i doing wrong is one of the vcr's broken!!???

not familar with either machines, but does the sony output a pure ntsc signal or ntsc 4.43.

i would assume that the samsung would require the input to be set on ntsc to receive the signal from the sony.

the output could be for when you want to send a converted signal from the samsung ie a ntsc tape converted to a pal signal to allow you to copy to a pal only machine.

hope this is of some help.

Well, you should be able to set the input on "PAL" and then it'll record in PAL.

But I still don't understand why it dosent work

but if the input was pal (ie the signal from the sony), you wouldn't require a video with a standards convertor.

i assume the signal from the sony is a modified ntsc one 4.43 ?

i assume the 'input' refers to the signal being fed to the samsung.

You are dubbing the wrong way round!

Most modern vcrs these days (inc your Sony) have an NTSC playback feature. Whilst this feature does provide a reasonable pic to your tv screen, it is not doing any conversion whatsoever!

Therefore you need to 'play' the tape in the Samsung vcr which needs to be set to output a PAL signal for you to then copy onto your Sony.

I am presumming you wanted this old NTSC tape transfered to PAL?

    Setting input on: NTSC
    and output on: PAL

I set Input on "clean" NTSC.
You can also choose to set in on NTSC 4.43
...But isnt that for middle East!?

try setting it to ntsc 4.43 and try again.

i believe that 4.43 is the modified ntsc signal your sony probably outputs.
