Currently have a pair of pioneer s-h310v-ql speakers running from my marantz pm4400. Iv had the amp and speakers for about 8 years now and finding the pioneers have lost their sound quality. Looking at spending £150 tops on some bookshelfs as my room aint big. Is it the speakers that need replacing or amp? Any help much appreciated.

For a budget of £150 you're choice is limited to small bookshelf speakers. Try replacing you cables first, they do not cost much but you may gain a modest improvement in sound. Otherwise suggest you visit you local RicherSounds emporium. They have a good range of speakers at that price range but if you can stretch your budget to £200, you can afford the latest Wharfedale Diamond speakers 10.0, which are great purchase.

The Mordant_Short Avanti 902i are extremely good which belies their price.

Be careful as once you've bought yourself new speakers you'll be wanting a new amp and then a new CD player. Oh Hell I might as well go for broke and buy bigger speakers which will require a more a powerful amp to drive ... then you truly caught the 'hi-fi' bug!!!!
