Thanks so much but no its for a pc. Have dvd drive and cd writer. How easy is it to change the cd writer for the dvd writer?

So now you can guess what is coming, which is a good internal one if it is not too hard to swap.

To swap one drive for another you just pull off the cables and do a like for like replacement with the new drive. All you need to make sure of with an IDE drive is that the jumper settings are the same - ie master or slave. If it is a SATA drive then there are no jumpers to set.

Are you after SATA or IDE (IDE= flat ribbon cable, SATA= small round cable )?

Oh and if you want to copy DVD's then a prerecorded movie etc will have copy protection and therefore you wont be able to use Nero or similar. TV recordings or camcorder footage etc will be fine though.

Don't ask how to beat the copy protection as we are not allowed to answer this on the forum.

No idea if SATA or IDE as have no idea what that means, how do i find out.
Search maplin for ide cable then search for sata cable then open up yhe case and look to see what cable is connected to the back of the dvd drive (with the computer turned of and disconnected from the mains of course) or you could just look up your computer on the net and it might tell you on the manufacturers website.

Pcworld are doing an external lg dvdrw for £40 (in stock) and a different lg for £29:99 (out of stock atm)
