Hi all, just a general advice needed really....looking at getting a plasma screen sub £3k and would like in your opinions the best to get. I saw a Techwood TWP4210 in Dixons and the screen quality was pretty good compared to a £3500 Phillips set. I know thats like cheapest of the cheap and prefer Sony products more but any advice or pointing in the right direction is greatly appreciated...

I would look Mail Order/Internet or even John Lewis for a 42" Is there a specialist shop near you. I would avoid Dixons/Comet/Currys etc... as they are box shifters IMOH and would not know a component cable to a compisite, im sure for £3200 you could pick up a quality model, shop near me is doing the sony 42" for around £3600

For under £3K you can pick up Panasonic and Hitachi screens either of which will be a vast improvement over the Techwood you have mentioned. The Sonys aren't terribly well thought of as a result of the premium price without premium performance.

Lots of good deals going at the moment, try some of the sponsor e-tailers for this forum.

I've seen the sony 42" for £29xx summat but there is something holding me back from it.....I know these shops dont set them up properly but the picture didnt inspire me. If set up properly is it a good set? Or should I set my sights lower and accept that if i want a plasma screen the picture isnt gonna be perfect?

The Sony is mostly the same as the Hitachi, same glass, many shared internal components. Hitachi make the glass, Sony re-badge and sell it as their own. Guess who knows more about plasma? The hitachi is £500 cheaper on average. Not that I particularly like Hitachi, just there's not much point in paying Sony price for it, cut out the middle man.
