My wife has a 2016 GLA 220d (82k miles). It had EML come on and warranty company asked me to take it to their preferred garage.

The garage came back with needing a new manifold but warranty company have said they will not pay because it is due to a build up of carbon build up as per the report they were sent. I checked the policy and carbon build up is excluded so fair enough.

The guy I spoke to at the warranty company said sorry can’t help and he also says he doesn’t believe I should have to replace the intake manifold or pay the £960 the garage wants as they should be able to clean it.

Just wanted a second opinion on this. The garage is an independent and they are saying that cleaning is pointless and that they usually replace the manifold in these situations. Was hoping for some advice from experts on here.

Clean it and then regularly run a cleaner through to prevent build up.

Never needed to clean the manifold on my 330d or 335d and they were approaching 170k miles when i sold them.
