Could anyone give me some advice please as I am a beginner in this field?

I want to buy a DVD Writer in order to burn video footages that I take with my MiniDV camcorder – SONY DCR-HC19E.

As my main goal is to watch these videos on my Home Cinema System – SONY DAVS550, I was wandering if there is anyone out there who knows what sort of DVD media my Home Cinema System will read, DVD-R, DVD+R or both formats?

What DVD-Writers would you recommend?
I’ve come across with a dual layer one on both formats: NEC ND-3520 4x (DVD±R DL)

Many thanks.

IET,
Your chioce of burner is top notch. good burn speeds and future proofed duel layer, (when it becomes cost effective)
Bad news on your player though, checking the specs, it doesn't play any writeable formats other than VCD, which isn't the best quality.

a friend of mine has this player and he couldn't play a minus disc I burned from my dvd recorder. :thumbsdow
Could just be the disc, but it seemed to play okay on others players.

Mine played a DVD+R disc which I recorded last week on a Sony GXD500 recorder. It didn't work initially, until I 'Finished' the disc. (whatever that is, looked like indexing etc).
Neil.
