Need Advice on a New Setup Please

Hey guys,

I currently have a new HTPC I've just built with a normal LCD and I am about to come into possession of a friends Projector.

The problem I have is if I were to run the projector from the HTPC I would have no audio and I have been thinking about building up a new system consisting of an AV Receiver and speakers.

OK so on to the nitty gritty; I'm not looking to spend anything more than £200-250 on the receiver and speakers which means I am looking at the budget end of the spectrum. I have been looking at the new stuff and my question is as follows;

  • Do I go for a separate speaker and receiver setup?
  • Can I get a decent system for this type of money?
  • Am I better off looking at the 2nd hand market for a better bargain?

Here's an AV receiver I've seen;

Sony STRDH520 Black | AV Receiver | Richer Sounds

Or they have a denon for £99

This would then leave me about £100 for the speakers. Or am I better off getting something like this?

Any help would be much appreciated guys.

:)

I would not get the LG but would instead get the Yamaha 196 or 298 instead. For the money you will not get better than the Yamaha models. There is also an Onkyo system around the same price as the Yamaha ones which would also be worth a look.

Thanks dude, did have a look at the Yamaha 196.

At the moment my system would consist of;

- HTPC with HDMI 7.1 card
- SKY HD
- Sony Bravia 32" LCD
- Panasonic Projector (coming soon)
