Regarding the aerial - impossible to say for certain what you need without seeing your house - you might be quite near a transmitter but there might be a block of flats in the way - but for a DIY job; you're saving on paying a firm so take advantage of that to get the best aerial you can afford. I would say, as a fellow DIYer, work out what aerial you need based on how well your house is placed is positioned in relation to the trasmitter and what aerials your neighbours have - then get the next aerial bigger.

Regarding aerials - obviously you don't want to pay an excessive amount but some people, and I'm not saying you, set out to find the cheapest aerial. I would say get the best aerial you can afford - one of the good makes.

Very useful info. According to wolfbane I need high gain aerial, which i already have(dab45), but still have some noise interference/occasional freezing on some channels. My aerial is in the loft ,booster is a 4 way maxview 13db,and humax freeview signals range from 20--60% at best. What else can I use to boost signal ? a mast head amp? anyone please[IMG]

The greatest improvement you could make is to get your aerial outside the loft...you may then not need a masthead amp.
