Need a new DVD player

Just got a samsung 50 and need a new dvd player as the current one is shagged. Ideally I'd like the player to be multiregion, to come with a built in amp, have progressive scan and (ideally HDMI and componant output.)

I'm looking at spending around £250 at the most

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi, how are you doing?
I'm kinda in the same boat as you.
I to am looking for that sort of player (minus the amp). I did go for the Samsung 950 because everyone was raving for it. In the end I do not like the picture quality, to my eyes not sharp enough. Lots of people seem to like the oppo 971 player and I will be going for that. Try doing a search for the oppo 971 and look at the specs. Seems to be multi-region out of the box, good connections ( but no HDMI but one poster said it didn't matter that much!).
Are you sure you can't go for a separate amp. Or is a matter of Space/money?
Believe me, on that Samsung you need big sound to go with big pictuers.

Does that samsung have a built in amp? Is that what 6ch output means?

To be honest I never checked. 6ch output could mean it has or that when connected up to an amp it will do 6 channels- DTS and DD.
Sorry, but I have never bought a DVD player with a built-in amp.

No, it has a built-in decoder. Hence it can output analogue 5.1 surround sound, but it needs to go into the 5.1 phono inputs of an AV receiver for amplification...PJ
