Hey there people, looking for a laptop here mainly for the old man, but tbh i'll probably use it for browsing, outlook express and that, got my PC for the rest.

Max budget is probably around £400ish (maybe stretch to £450 if worth it)

Another point i really want it to have a Wireless Lan 'n' series internally, is that possible?? just that in the future i'll be getting an 'n' series router and don't really want any dongeles or anything sticking out of the laptop, lol

Also screen has to be a bit big, let says min 16/17" (and max is the same don't want to drive the cost up just for the screen)

    Any recomendations or advice,

    Cheers, all

P.S. I've got a PC world, comet and currys all local to me (5minz) so i can check them out in store if need be

I'm in a similar position. Currently looking at the Samsung NC10 (only a 10" screen though) and low end Dells (from about £330). I think you can probably pick up a HP laptop for around £450.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, computers aren't really my specialty. You might also want to have a look on the Overclockers forum - Overclockers UK Forums - Powered by vBulletin

    Hi there,

The screen on this is 15.4" which may be too small but though't i'd mention it anyway; i've bought two of these for uni mates over the past few months:

    Asus X50RL - £369.99: Asus X50RL Laptop - Laptops at Ebuyer

The build quality is very good and an impressive spec to match(2GB RAM, decent core 2 duo processor, 160GB HDD) - plenty of power for your old man to check his emails/browse the web.

This model only has wireless b/g (the next model up has N) however most (if not all) N routers still supoprt b/g so you won't have to mess around with dongles.

    Happy hunting

    What about:

HP 6735s Laptop - Laptops at Ebuyer

I have recommended this in another thread it will do everything you want it to do and much more! I know it is a little of your budget but not by much! The only downside is the processor can get pretty hot under extreme use which it does not sound like you will be doing!

I'll look for another one to give you more options aswell =D

I've been looking at that model. Currently using an old HP Pavilion and the biggest problem it has is over heating. If the 6735s suffers from this as well then I might steer clear.

All laptops with suffer with heat problems usually... and amd have come a long way of late months... I say it gets hot under excessing workloads which as I said it doesn't look like you would do... plus it has 88 5 star reviews and some of them talk about it being very cool thanks to a very good fan so maybe that has taken care of it... I only said it may get hot because of the amd processor, which is a general statement towards there processors... so if the laptop has good cooling systems then it would run cool....

    Where?

You can get the 6735 for that money, but not the 6730b
