Watched the storms build up last night and thought it was a good opportunity to go and get some decent photos.

Found a quiet bit of Cambs countryside and set the camerea up in the back of the car with the boot open to keep the rain of (Subaru estate).

Got some nice shots with an old SLR and thought it was time to go when the first near miss occurred two feilds away - nearly soiled myself!

Then drove through the rain back to my village, rain had stopped so opened the windows to get a bit of air in - flash BANG about 30m away in front of me! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Really did poo meself! the heat and noise made it feel as if someone had slapped my face - my ears were ringing and my nose and cheeks were red like a sunburn...

    That'll teach me. :suicide:

    anyone else?

In your position, I'd be asking if Tiny do weather machines.

we had our big storm last weekend, it was awesome...at one point six forks of lightning, at the same time, came about half way down and then back up again in giant "U" shapes about a mile away from our house...amazing, the sky was greenish! Never seen anything like it...

Weather was a little wild down my way yesterday evening too. I think my ABS kicked in more times on the 14 mile journey home from the station last night than it has in the last 6 months.

Still, the torrential downpour rinsed the dirt off the car!

roversd1 - nice camera! My first SLR was one of them and it was built like a tank! The Minolta 7000 i use now is much fancier and easier to use but i swear it doesn't take as good pictures. Although that might be me being lazy and using it on auto instead of doing everything manually like you used to have to with a Praktica!

I got zapped yesterday. Luckily it was by accidently brushing the power contact inside my guitar amp, not lightening. Still, 240V gave me a good fright though!

Don't have that kind of stories but my father spend 3 years in the military in Mozambique and he told me that 1 time their jeep broke down at night with HEAVY rainfall and lightning strikes each 20s and 10m from them

Another time in their dormitary a lightning bolt stroke the electrical cable and run throught their metalic beds  Now THAT IS SCARY

Many years ago I was in a group youth hostelling in the lakes and we were walking over Helvellyn.I had a metal framed pack which stood about 6" taller than myself when a storm broke out and we had lightening strikes all around us.Supposedly we should have got on our knees and curled up in a ball (or prayed!!).Would anyone really do that??We broke all records for shifting off a mountain with a heavy pack, but it was one of the most frightening things I've ever experienced. Not being in the forces I've never experienced enemy fire, but I imagine it would be a similar experience and it always makes me admire anyone who has been in any war-zone.
