Hello everyone, before you read this i think you should know i'm at college at the moment so all this is on a budget! Also its my bedroom and not a living room as i don't have a living room to myself!

    My current kit is:
    - Cambridge Audio Azur 540R - my pride and joy
    - -NEW- Toshiba 28ZD26P
    - Gale 3030c centre speaker
    - -NEW- Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo 3, mass filled and bi-wired with linn cable. These are brand new, and I finally have a stereo sound to be proud of. Even Dad (A Linn fanatic) is impressed!.
    - -NEW- Gale MS308 Sub with Ixos twisted 3m cable
    - Gale 3060b bipolar left and right surrounds
    - Eltax Monitor centre rear
    - Arcam Alpha CD player connected by linn phono cables
    - Cambridge Audio dvd55 dvd player - connected by Coaxial Digital and Component
    - Sky connected by Ixos RGB
    - Sky + from the other room by optical and S-Video over scart
    - Xbox with RGB/optical cable
    - Cambridge Audio m1+ remote
    - Argos "Stretton" Glass/chrome stand (only £100)
    - Staples Direct Leather Recliner (£50)

    Future upgrades:
Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo Centre - although I'm not sure I need it because I am happy with the performance of the Gale, and it matches the tone of the floorstanders remarkably well compared to my old Eltax speakers.

Click on the thumbnails below for the full pics. I left the older pics attatched for the rear speakers etc as well.

Any comments or suggestions welcome... thanks for looking!

PS I'm well aware that the middle Star Wars poster is upside down, my mate did it to annoy me and I'm too lazy to turn it round

Very nice indeed - plenty of much older forum members would be jealous of a setup like that! You seem to have gotten the balance just right which is certainly very important at the price-level you're working at. It's going to be great once you've got your new kit and a carpet installed. :)

So here's my new list of possible receivers....maybe you guys can help me narrow it down some.

    pioneer vsx d914
    denon avr 1705 or 1804
    Harmon Kardon 3480 and 330
    Yamaha rx-v1500 or 550
and finally the onkyo tx sr601

any news on the pioneer 1014tx or 1015tx...these also seem snazzy

Thank you all for your input.

I wish my dad was that interested in music. All he has downstairs is my old JVC pro logic mini hifi with a pair of Eltax floorstanders I forced him to buy if he was having a hifi like that! :D

How did you sort out the scart leads by the way? MSN me at craig.mclellan@gmail.com if it's a difficult process. :D

do you mean from the other room? it cost about £30 from www.tvcables.co.uk, i got a 5m flat scart, a joiner (which pokes up just outside my door after going uder carpet) and then a 3m flat scart (i wish i got a round smaller one now for the last bit) into my room.

    Hmm.

May be a bit impractical for me. Would have to go round from my tv, across the long wall, up the wall, through the wall, downstairs, then to the tv... would need a very long lead... and hiding it would be difficult. I suppose I could use some phono leads for the RGB bits and the y-sync feed...

Possibly a project for the summer! :D

Break out the RGBS signals as you've suggested and run it through some multicore cable.

That looks great mate, I've heard Dfours Evo3's and they were great even though his system is set up to be much brigher than mine.

How do they sound? I think it was a more sensible move than changing the amp. Have you tried the stereo amp again?

Now you just need a top notch sub and the matching centre. :)

they sound absolutely amazing. at first i thought they sounded very similar to the eltax's, and they do at lower levels (well id of called it loud with the eltax's) but with about half as much volume again (-20db in my room is VERY loud!!!) they still sounded perfect. so much bass definition, enough oomph without a sub to kick you in the stomach, yet it never drowns out vocals or any high end stuff. i cant believe how good they sound, i just keep listening to songs over and over! soul to squeeze by RHCP, track 11 of ryan adams, emotionless by good charlotte, filter - take a picture, feeder - find the colour etc etc.

still going now, and have had to move my sub because it was interfering.

about the sub, i hate using them for music, dad trialed a linn seizmik and neither of us liked it. although it integrates much better with the evo's than the eltax's, i still dont like it. sitting next to the right speaker it just muddled the sound and drowned out the treble.

over the moon. i was bummed because i missed some linn keilidhs for the same price collected from gford, but imo these are just as good. (a very bold statement i know).

wait till we make the linn's activ was my dad's comment!

what i meant to add was that the sub provides enough oomph for films, i know its not great but it does the LFE fine for my little room, and thats what i wanted it for. i disagree with subs for music completely im afraid, i know many will disagree :).

and i cant upgrade for ages, need car and insurance!

and havent had time to try power amp again yet, i just cant believe how the azur has kept up with my upgrades :clap::clap::clap::clap:
