Hi All,

I am looking to put all my media all in one place. Whats the best option? I have a USB 3.0 port on the back of my router, so my thought was simply to buy a external HDD put all the media on that and then simply share it around the house?

Thoughts?

Cheers

Using a single external HDD is not a good idea as it is a point of failure without any backup option in place. A NAS would be more suitable.
What I would suggest you do is -

1. What media have you got ? music, films etc. How much space do they currently take up? How much does that grow by per month? So,for example, how long would it take for you to fill 3TB of space?

2. If films do you need to transcode them to play on a TV ?

3. Have a look at Synology and Qnap.
Synology Inc.
QNAP Systems, Inc. - Network Attached Storage (NAS)

4. Come back with questions.
