Question NAS is almost full

Hi

My Qnap NAS with 4x 6TB drives is almost full.
Much of what is on there needs to be stored elsewhere as its not so important , and this will free up room in the NAS

So Im looking at buying the following - QNAP TL-D800C 8-Bay Desktop Expansion Enclosure

Now the NAS will configure all drives to the smallest installed.

Is this the case in the expansion unit , which I plan to use solely as a back up facility

OR

it there an alternative solution ?

Cheers

Does your QNAP have a USB3 port otherwise it will not work with that enclosure.

The D800C when connected to the QNAP NAS will allow you to create software RAID arrays on it but this may impact the host NAS performance depending upon its CPU as its not hardware RAID (you want something like the TR-004 for that).

That D800C is probably meant for QNAP's high end stuff that have really good Intel Core CPU's in them not low end home stuff, at least that's my guess.
