Why go for this when the R1 is so cheap. It also has all the extras from the much more expensive forthcoming UK version.
My copy was only £4 ! from DVDSoon C$9.98 think its now upto around £6

on the R1 you get burnt in subs for times when the Monks speak Latin, mostly prayers, but they're the kind of prayers that let you know you're in with a hardline extreme religious sect.

Received mine yesterday from DVDsoon as well (no shipping problems here).

Anyone else a little disappointed that it was disc-only, ie no inserts? The quality of the cover was also pretty lame. A great film like this deserves so much better.

That said, it's all about the film. Can't wait to watch it!

I got mine from CDWOW on Wednesday. The case feels a bit cheap too. This seems to be becoming a norm for a lot of films (new editions of Sea of Love and Carlito's Way are the same).

Also, the documentary on The Name of the Rose is strange. All in German with English subtitles. Even the clips from the film are dubbed in German with subs. Best of all are the interview segments with the director. He's speaking French is dubbed in German and has English subs :suicide:

Yeah not even chapter selection :thumbsdow

Didn't get time to watch it last night, though I did put the beginning on just for a quick looksey.
Picture seemed OK on the telly albeit very dark, but if memory serves it is a very dark film throughout (no electricity in medieval times I guess :D ) so will get a better idea of PQ on the PJ tonight, what did strike me was the audio which has been given the 5.1 treatment, the opening choral music and ringing bells sounded very good

I would guess its because the film was mainly financed in Germany. The producers were based there, with it being a Germany, France, Italy co financed film.
As the making of was made at the time of the film' release guess it was made by the producers. Is also very odd in that for the film clips you hear the English then a few seconds later there is a German overdub which is then subtitled back to English !
I guess at the time a German made for TV promo (which it looks like) would not have worked totally in English with subtitles hence the overdub.
