Do I need 6 speakers to use Neo:6? Is the sound to the 6th channel rerouted elsewhere or is it lost?

I currently have the 2011 set up with 5.1 speakers, with the surround backs bi-amped to my front speakers.

Correct me if im wrong but NEO:6 is 6 channels, ie 5 speakers and the sub so you have no sound to loose. Hope that clears it up.

Correct me if I'm wrong too, but if you've connected the amps rear surround speaker outputs to the fronts, won't, when you have a proper es, ex or whatever soundtrack have the sound for those speakers coming out of the fronts? Or shall I go and hide now, having completely misunderstood the situation? (I did a similar thing with my sony amp to the fronts, but using the room B output.)

The Pionner has a clever function where you can use the unused amp channels to bi-amp the fronts.

Using the room B output surely Biwires the fronts. Biamping is different again.

No it's biamping...the amps that would be used to drive the two centre rear channels can instead be used to biamp the front pair in a 5.1 set up.
Regarding Neo:6 it drives my back centre channel (6 speakers) i'm not sure if in a 5 speaker set-up a phantom rear would be generated or not

Its not even as it Neo:6 generates that much signal for the rear channels anyway so its not as it you would loose anything. Its hardly the same as loosing DD-EX sound.

Yes, using the amps that would have driven the two centre rear channels is biamping but simply using the speaker b outputs as CDB suggested he did with his Sony is surely only Biwiring as the same amps are used but with switchable outputs.

Sorry, yes. I'd only skimmed the thread so missed the bit where CBD mentioned his Sony, which as you say would be bi-wired not bi-amped.
