Basically, how long would you expect to be able to run a DIN to XLR interconnect for active speakers, before hum kicks in?

I have two sets, the 5m run is ok.

However, the 10m run causes the speakers to hum quite loudly, as if there was an earth loop problem.

I have swapped the cables round and the hum is always on the longer run.

The cable is an off the reel 'standard' cable made up at the dealer. Ironically, it was fine when it went from RCA to XLR, but now the DINs are on, hum kicks in.

    Any ideas?

No doubt the magic Mark Grant cable is on the horizon. :D

I should add that it is for front and rear speakers from my Naim AV2 to ATC actives.

Now this is one I have never tried, esoteric or what :) This may be a suck it and see job. Have you talked to CHORD or Naim yet about this? They might be able to help.

It's possibly a cable capacitance problem. Possibly.

I'll be at my dealers this afternoon to fit 22 Ohm resistors inline to cure the problem.

    We'll see if it works.

I believe it's specific to this cable (which is double screened and pretty good by the way), the ATCs and the Naim.

    Never easy is it.

    So fingers crossed.

    Well it worked perfectly.

Naim are spot on for their customer service.

My dealer fitted the mod today in the DIN plug and it's all fine and dandy.

    I'm certainly very happy.

One of the morals here is to definately buy into high quality goods from a customer orientated firm and dealer working in tandem to help in any possible way.

    First class service imho.

A simple little problem (when you know the answer), but helping hands just a phone call away.

Guy: Shining example of customer service. Who was the dealer. Lets give them a plug for actually being a competent specialist!
