Ok ok i'm just about to have my bath, yes it's that time of year again, but before I hit the water and as I have a bit of time to waste, er spare I wondered what naff, read crap, dvd transfer you might like to rant about. Mine is The Jazz Singer (the Neil Diamond one). The sound has not been remastered into 5:1, but left in Dolby surround and the picture is like a bad, and I mean a bad vhs, not even s-vhs transfer. It is soft and fuzzy, but having only paid £2:99 for it at Virgin I will put up with it. Even so Tsk tsk Warner Bros. :thumbsdow

well, there are loads of DVDs that have had poor transferes.

I need only mention the Blade runner DVD from warner brothers (sorry Gary-D :D ) as prime example of a badly transfered movie.

R1 - Return of the Pink Panther. Worst commercial DVD I've ever seen.

I've got a couple of old 'flippers' somewhere.

'A Time to Kill' springs to mind as one being especially naff. Plus I have an old DVD of 'The Thing'. A film I really love, but I don't even think is in anamorphic widescreen.

I also have one film, though I can't remember which it is, that has a Dolby Digital soundtrack, but defaults to Pro Logic unless you select otherwise from the menu everytime you play. Anyone else had this?

It all depends on what you've seen/watched/got.

Compare A Time To Kill and Blade Runner to "She's On Duty" (which I just reviewed) and it's like Nemo vs LP Video recordings......

But yes there are a few out there.

That is supposed to look like that. The DVD is a lot better than teh digital TV version. I think it looks fine.

The R2 is one of the best transfer I have seen and that is on a projector.

This review gives it a 10 for picture.

Irrespective of what the (visually impaired?) reviewer might have said, the R2 Spiderman 2 has a massive excess of Edge Enhancement, thankfully all but missing from the R1 Superbit edition.

I never saw any and I have watched it five times now.

I know what you mean. It is supposed to be grainy with high contrast. What is lost is the widescreen aspect that it was shown in TV in the US. It was even shown in HD.

The 4:3 is a shame too, the series is great though I have just started to watch it and I love it. Thanks to all the recomedations from forum members. I have heard that season 2 is allot better.

Another poor transfer was Total Recall region 2

It was 4:3 on Channel 5 as well.

I have up to season 3 on DVD and it gets better and better. Season 5 on TV was also excellent. Season 2 and later are in anamorphic widescreen.

    CSI Miami is also widescreen.

My worst transfer is probably Blade Runner. It does looks quite good occasionally.

    Hi :hiya:

I watched Spiderman 2 on R2 for the first time last night and I have to agree a bit with the picture. It was a bit too 'hard-edged' and bordering on 'grainy' at times.

    But the sound

The surround effects I thought were spot on. The bass where the reactor starts up ruffled my clothes and hair and the rumble when it was running re-arranged my insides! Plus the explosions all but rattled the windows. Excellent!

It may not be DTS, but it's my new fave demo disk for sound over Blade 2 :D

"The Cat and the Canary" any region, looks like a VHS transfer
"Die Hard with a vengeance" R1 has really bad edge effect on it
