    hi guys,
I'm getting a little stuttering playing movies
from my hard drives, which I think is
hardware related ( I've tried everything else!!)

So where would I get the biggest improvement?
I play using Zoom player / dscaler /reclock / ffdshow
I can resize to x2 with only 70% cpu usage but I get bad
stutter and dropped frames. Even resizing to 1024 x 576
gives a little stutter with dscaler but not if I use powerdvd.
My problem is that I prefer dscaler.

    My system specs are:

    AMD XP3200+
    512MB RAM
    ATI 9600 radeon

So what would give me a decent improvement and maybe
solve my problem? I was thinking of 1024mb ram and an ATI 9800PRO.

Which version of ffdshow are you using? Try using a different version. It's a quick one to try and could solve your prob. I'm using the mar3 version and it works well but I had similiar probs to yours on the feb version. Also some say that the older versions are more stable. Give it a go and let me know. Hardware sounds ok but I'm no expert!

Barry: your memory and video card are fine, more memory or a new card will achieve nothing for you as far as your playbck problems are concerned.

Get hold of FFDSHOW 20041012_SSE and try that, more recent versions seem plagued by performance issues and frankly nothing added since the October 2004 version does anything useful to improve scaling as far as I can see.

    Thanks guys,
well I just tried that version ( i had feb 2004 i think)
and it has reduced cpu even further 30 - 35%. I now have no
stutter with PAL but still with NTSC. I am using powerstrip by the
way 50hz PAL and 71. something for NTSC which seems better than
48hz (tearing) and 60hz (reclock won't lock on).
    Any ideas?
