The new projector itself basically looks like the old one, but the 5500:1 contrast ratio and 1100 lumens certainly make a difference. I can easily tell that the new projector is brighter and even at full zoom showing an 80" picture puts up a good fight against my PE30 VIERA plasma when the curtains are drawn, I've yet to decide which one wins though

One think I have noticed is the AE900's real lack of visible pixel structure over the AE700, can you confirm this observation or am I not being fair to the 700?

Overall I'm deeply impressed by the 900 and consider it to be a big step up from 700, but do you personally feel the upgrade worth it?

Oh yeah, the remote is pure class too. It's like having a learning One For All and even switches the HDD-DVD modes of my HDD/DVD recorder.

I'm sure that people forget that when they upgrade as you have they are not really compairing like with like, as in a new pj with a new pj. I had 600 hours on my Sony HS10 when I had to replace the lamp. If I had left home having seeing the old lamp in the HS10 and returned a day later to see the new lamp and being told by the wife that she had upgraded a HS20, I would have believed her :D

Point taken. My PT-AE700 had only done a few hundred hours though, so hopefully it didn't make to much of a difference to it's performance.

Benj: Funnilly enough one of the first things I did was to stick a blank sheet of paper in front of the projector to check the smooth screen filter, which on first impressions seems very good indeed, but I can't confirm if it's any better than on the 700 though as it's been ages since I last tried it and I don't have the 700 anymore to compare it to.

The image doesn't appear square on to the wall ? Is your PJ facing slightly to the left ?

I noticed that, but if its anything like our house, it'll be the ceiling that's out of alignment.

That shiny white ceiling is going to kill the contrast on your PJ.

Everything will kill the contrast in that room lol

I had a light room then made the change to a dark red room with a 5" black boarder around my screen this made the picture seem far deeper and contrast seems alot better. A screen makes a big difference from a painted wall too.

Yeah, it's not squared up in the photo as I just wanted to check it out (you know how it is when you get a new toy). The ceiling is shiney though, so I'll probably point the projector down a bit in time to increase the gap so that it doesn't reflect on the ceiling.
The lack of screen is mainly down to the missus though, as we didn't want one hanging in view and at the time of the build didn't bother incorporating boxing it off as part of the design so it will probably never happen.

Is there any other differences over the 700?
