my recorder does not recognize sony rw disks?

hi all recently purchased tatung dvd recorder,and purchased a pack of 5 fujifilm dvd rw disks, when i load disk recorder shows blank on front display, and records to disk ok and erases if i wish to remove what i recorded.

purchased some sony rw disks from woolies but when inserted in dvd recorder the display shows no disk???

are there diferances in certain brands of dvd disk. had to get refund today as sony disks were no use with my particular player.

have you bought -rw or +rw, these are two different types and your player should say in the specs which one it plays!

thanks jamiev i did not know that there were + and minus vertions of r or rw disks, went into woolies and purchased phillips +rw disks ,which work ok with my recorder.
