    Does the famous/infamous Samsung LE32R41B have backlight adjustment via its menu system. It is a possible buy for me except SWMBO does not like the shiny surround!!!

    No, it only has an automatic backlight adjustment, which gets it right every time when there's some ambient light. (and if there isn't there should be; you'll wreck your eyes)

    Thanks for that. What you say about wrecking one's eyes has always been an eye opener for me, when I hear or read on these forums that there are people who watch their TV with no light in their rooms - a recipe for disaster if ever I heard of one.

    I've never watched my TV in darkness as it is, as you say, very stressful for the eyes.
