After talking to someone at the weekend about my AV shelf, and the fact that the XBox is the only non-silver item in my system, I was inspired to make it fit in.

I spent about 60 minutes taking the whole thing to pieces so I was left with only the black casing, covered the labels etc. with masking tape and set about a spray painting job.

The finished article looks great, I must say. I walked into the living room this morning, it really did look good with all the other silver kit.

    Here's the pictures.

Thanks, the only thing I want to do to it now is paint the XBOX logo on the DVD drawer black so it is the opposite to the original design. Other than that I'm happy with it.

No, like I said above, I took everything out. I was purely left wth the black plastic casing. I sprayed it like that then re-assembled it.

It does work still, I played a few games of FIFA 2005 last night to celebrate my victory. I didn't celbrate those victories though. ;)

you should check out xbox scene if you havent already, get some more ideas for your xbox, the spray jobs looks aight, but you can so much more with it. if spraying is the only you wanted, then good job anyway

Thanks, I have looked there before and there are some great mods but the main purpose of this is so it looks like it fits in with the rest of the equipment. Even my PS2 is silver and the big bulky black Xbox stood out too much. It had to be done.

Good job man. I've sprayed alot of consoles myself, done a few white xboxs, PS2s and Gamecubes.

Looks like a good finish on the xbox. :)

For those who'd like to customise their XBox without going to this sort of hassle, you could always skin it.

    See http://www.consoleskins.com/

It's very simple, but makes a big difference IMHO.

is there no problem with having speaker/subwoofer so close to the xbox?

never really thought about it before but there is a fairly strong magnet in the speaker somewhere.....

The centre speaker is magnetically sheilded. :smashin:

Not sure but I don't think it would cause too much trouble even if it wasn't. Dn't think the magnets are THAT powerfull. Could be wrong though. :suicide:

I think if you were going to have problems with the magnets in the speaker, you'd have had them by now!

That's a nice looking box by the way, I like the finish.

Thats pretty cool really. I guess they have re released the crystal as they realise the black box dosnt fit in with many peoples setups.

It's a bit too late for most people though.
Like me, many aren't prepared to just go out and buy a new box just for it to look better (although some will;)).

Mind you it's not that expensive these days with the x-box under a 100 squid and a bit of value on the old box as a trade in at Game or ebay.
I must confess a few months ago to tradeing in my black PS2 for the silver one and if a silver xbox came out i'd do the same. I do use my xbox as my R1 dvd player so it gets a fair bit of use.

Yeah, but what about all the hassle of transferring your saved games/music with the Xbox? Not a problem with the PS2 obviously.

Looks great! There's only the Sky+ box that slightly lets the setup down as that's an off white colour. How about taking that apart & spraying that as well?

You know, I was thinking the same thing this morning whilst watching TV. It never looked that out of place before but now it stands out. I've already had it apart once to replace the HD so maybe it could be sprayed as well. I'll have to give the missus something to do though while it's out of action.

Hmm, I'll have a think about that one.

Music would be a problem , i do have a number of ripped cd's sitting there. Saved game wise i do have an x-box memory card so i'm ok there :smashin:
All i need now is a "Silver" x-box. I really don't fancy my odds of taking the box apart and doing a good enough spray job like RichMercer accomplished and getting in back in one piece.

I'm usually quite adept at these sort of things but there was a nervy 2 minutes when I turned it on, then it hung after the startup animation but that was because I forgot to plug the IDE ribbon back onto the motherboard so it couldn't find the HDD/DVD Drive. Otherwise, it was ok. It was more straighforward than I thought though.

It might just be me.. but I really like the colour white

I got a white PS2 because of this, and I was tempted with a white 2nd anniversary Xbox, but there was going to be too much trouble modding it/getting it on Live etc, so I went for the green as that was the most 'limited edition'.

Don't think I'm going to start painting my black components white just yet though ;)

hey rich, how is the epson tw10 projector doing so far for you, im deciding on whther to get a projector or a rear projection tv (crt). the epson just fits within my budget at only £570, how happy are you with it and how much does a replacement bulb cost? thanks in advance for your reply.

also, how is it when you play the xbox on it, does it still look good when you play movies and stuff during the day with the curtains closed?
