As some of you know I have ordered my PDP-LX608D from AVSales and am currently waiting delivery.

I have just been on the Pioneer website and had a look at the 3D view of it which enable you to rotate, zoom and pan the image.

Here if you want to have a look:http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/black/pr...PDP_508XD.html

I've only just realised that some connections are on the left hand side of the screen, it's difficult to tell from the pic but does it have a cover to cover the connections? I really don't like the look of this screen from the side view

My current screen is the PDP433HDE which has a separate receiver box and no connections on either side.

There is no cover, but when are you ever going to be looking at the side of your tv?

    Really? No cover :(

Trouble is, as you can see from my pic, the entrance to my lounge passes straight past the left hand side of my screen, and to me when I'm going to mount it on the wall I don't want to see those connections. Particularly as they are connections I'm never going to use! Like headphones?

I'm in dilemma now as it's ordered with AVSales but that will wind me up :(

    Hi mate :)
I wouldn't worry about it ;) the connections blend into the black casing of the TV,barely noticebale in daylight, let alone a darkened room. :smashin:

You couldn't post a quick pic of it from the side could you? I know it sound's pathetic but I'm really bad when it come's to silly little details. Also, as you can see from my home pic, I walk past the left hand side of my TV everyday.

Many thanks for posting the pics, I really appreciate it.

Did you have a look at my current pic? As you can see, I have to walk straight past it all the time otherwise it wouldn't bother me at all.

I'm slightly gutted to be honest, maybe more so that it's connections I'm never going to use. I really don't see the point in a headphone socket and composite connections on a 60 inch plasma.

    Many thanks once again.

Does anyone know if Pioneer do a 1080p 60inch set with separate reciever and no connections on the side of the screen?

Unfortunately those connections are going to bug the hell out of me so I'm going to ring AVSales up first thing this morning and cancel my order, gutted :(

err not wishing to be rude but you have a wire loose if you notice this and it bugs you? its a small black panel on a very large and very black telly

ppl aint gonna walk in an go damn look at that av port on the side of the telly, unless you got a large room there gonna walk in and go f##k me that sets massive. Well thats the response mine allways gets :rotfl:

some black electrians tape over the port would render it invisible in all but direct lighting

as for the point of them, there to give easy access for causally connected equipment like cam corders and digi cameras, where most ppl dont have them permantly connected

I know it's something that wouldn't bother 99.9 percent of people but it will annoy the hell out of me :(

Eric Pisch: I'm not concerned whether people walk in and notice the connections, it's the fact that "I" will notice that bothers me. And black insulation tape :) On a set that's going to be wall mounted all I want to see is the screen and frame surrounding it, not a host of connections I'll never use. They look ugly!

Chaparral:Unfortunately not, I'm absolutely gutted. Going to ring first thing this morning :(

You can get small black plastic phono socket covers, oft found on the back of AV amps. Surely that'd be a worthwhile compromise ?

Surely not being able to watch the picture quailty of a 60" pioneer 608LX plasma on your wall is going to brother you much much more
then being able to see a few side input connections if you look close at the side of it...

    !!!!!

What set do you intend to buy instead that is as good? You'll regret it more if you buy another set and get a crappy picture.

I am gutted and really don't want to cancel but I don't like the connections on the side.

The way the screen is placed in my lounge makes the side view of it extremely visible.

As you can see from my current set up I don't like to have any wires or anything visible, and I think those connections on the side just dont look right.

    http://s209.photobucket.com/albums/bb219/noycemwa/?action=view&current=SNV30628.jpg

Can anyone answer my actual question of whether Pioneer do a 1080p 60inch screen with separate receiver and no connections on side like the model I have now?

    :) Ha ha

Am I hearing the same pixies that gave you the black insulation tape idea?

I know it wouldn't bug most people and if it wasn't situated in the position it's in it wouldn't be an issue, but I know it will ****** me off :(

    Hey brother
maybe you can try attaching the side
speakers, giving them a little bent so that they
touch your wall and hide completely both sides of
    your panel...
    Best regards

    Simple solution,

Put the side speakers on it, use them for everyday viewing like I do.

Or buy some black foam and cut it precisely to size to fit the height of the set and from the wall to the set. It will then hide not only the side connection panel but also the bracket.

Don't you think it would have been a good idea to go and see this screen in the flesh before actually placing your order and messing AV Sales about?

Yep! I should have gone to see one, I just presumed it would be exactly what I wanted based on my current pleaseure with anything Pioneer.

Not really messed AVSales about as they can't even get me one yet or give me any real clue on delivery. I am truly aplogetic, and am not pleased to be cancelling my order.

I take it they don't do one with separate receiver and no connections on screen?

Again see my post above re black foam, this will work.

Yes they have a media box, but it is useless if you have SKY HD, and no they have no other screen designs.

Certainly gives me something to think about, thank you for the idea.

Crustloafer is right that I need to go look at the screen. I can't find anywhere that has the 60inch on display though. Is the 50inch Kuro the same design? Cancelling really is a last resort as I've been so excited about getting this screen :(

You really have done no research on this have you!!, cant believe that you will place an order for this price of product before researching.

Yes they are all the same. The main differece in one is 50" the other is 60", the bezel on the 60 is slightly wider and the on/off button is in a slightly different place.
The 60" weighs 55.5kg the 50" weighs 38.3KG.........its all there on the pioneer website!!!!!! Better still ring your dealer up now, be honest and ask him the questions, if they are any good, they will be able to anwer everthing quickly.

No I haven't done any research. I wanted a 1080p screen for the lounge, had previously liked Pioneer. I contacted AVSales and asked them what they would recommend, and this is it. I trusted AVSales as a few years ago I had a cinema room built in the back garden and they supplied all the equipment, and I was really impressed with them.

It wasn't until yesterday that I looked on the site to and noticed the ugly looking connections on the side :(

Just a thought but is the surface completely flat where the connections are? Wondered if I'd be able to make a blanking plate to cover over the whole row of connections?

This is the most tragic thread I've ever seen! :zonked:
You may be on the slippery slope towards obsessive compulsive disorder!

The surface around it is flat, just double-side tape a metal plate to it.

I came on this forum to ask a question about the screen as I had noticed something about it which I think may bother me. I want to know now rather than when it's delivered (which is estimated at sometime after the end of February)

It may not bother most of you that it has connections on the side which are easily visible with my set up, but it does me, and that's all that really matters. I'm also not interested in whether it would bother you, or indeed whether you think it's silly that it bothers me.

I'm going to view one at dinner today, I'll know for sure then.

    Hi noyce :)
It's a non issue for me but as i see from your post it clearly bothers you. :)
Maybe you could see one in the flesh,as with pics sometimes it's hard to tell.
If it still bothers you, don't buy it before it's too late.
    All the best mate.:smashin:
