As I mentioned in a previos thread, I had ordered a Panny AX100 and it arrived today. Also ordered a Vogel's Wall Mount for it (also arrived today).

While Working from home, I accidently tripped over holding my drill and created some holes in the wall that I had to use to mount the Vogel. After that I slipped while moving the projector and it ended up attached to the Vogel mount. Accidents can happen when you work from home ;)

Haven't decided on a screen yet (apart form knowing that I do want one and probably a 6 foot one). Will open a tread in the Screens group for advice on that. For now I accidently (see the common theme here?) printed out some black lines on the edge of some a4 and a gust of wind blew them onto the wall (not far form the truth). I know it doesnt look good but its better than the wall and its only until I get a screen. Also the screen will come lower than the paper is.

Anyway took a few pics to show them off. Will trunk the cables when we redecorate the room.

Thanks.

Ian.

He he ! I've often had a day "working from home" waiting for the new PJ to arrive :smashin:

Enjoy the new toy :)

You are my saviour!!

I'm desperately trying to decide on either a Sanyo Z5 or this Panny!

Please can you do a little review of your thoughts on it? And more pics! Looks really good there- and thats the exact wall mount I was looking at too.

Is the mount easy to fit?

If you don't mind- where did u get it from? and how much was it?

Cheers!

With regards to the screen, I'll start you off by suggesting you go for a unity gain matte white, because that PJ has plenty of brightness. I would also recommend you go for a 92" diagonal which is 80" wide, as long as you can sit 10 feet or more away from the screen, ie 1.5 screen widths.

ps You do seem accident prone.

I decided on the Panny as (afaik) the z5 didn't do 1080p24 and this does (tested with my PS3). Will wait until later to watch it properly and then write something down (just need to find some glue now as the paper isnt totally flat and it will start to bug me).

The PJ came from Komplett (ordered on thursday trying to get it before the weekend but all the people with the "reasonably priced" stock was not uk stock so took a couple of days). The mount came from av4home.co.uk as they were about the only place I cold find them in stock (everyone else seemed to be in stock from mid december).

It did not seem very hard to fit with some DIY skillz. Drill 3 8mm holes (template is provided on instruction sheet and use a level) and fit raw plugs then assemble as per diagrams. It said that using the 4th arm was "optional" but I fitted it anyway (would hate to end up wearing the PJ one evening because I only used 3 arms).

Thanks.

Thanks for the advise. Think that a 80" might be too big. The paper is about 65". Seating is just over 10' away. Was looking at a 6' wide screen (about 81" diag). Had been looking at the electric V6 screens on ebay but a quick look on the screens forum has got me rethinking that.

Only seem to have accidents when I wfh;)

Same thing man, some pulldowns/electronic screens dont have good support for the sides.... so I found....

I went for fixed frame and dont regret it one bit, its always a talking point when people see it .... plus I have the benefit of not having to accomodate a LCD/PLASMA screen which could get in the way.

I'm still trying to understand how much of a difference 1080p/24 support is- especially if the projector is only a 720p one... Does it really make a great difference??

IMHO it does.........certainly when purchasing a new pj I wouldn't consider not going with a pj that supports this. I bet a greater proportion of the new generation of pj's soon to be announced support this.

It doesn't make any difference that your pj is 'only' 720p, as the benefit is in the smooth playback which will be appreciated at any resolution. In simple terms with this ability each frame (film is recorded at 24 frames per second) will display for 5/120 of a second. Without it, the first frame will display for 6/120ths of a second, the second frame for 4/120ths of a second, the third for 6/120ths of a second and so on. Hence why the playback is 'juddery'.

I was very impressed with the image when watching the 4400 (last weeks) on sky1hd. The room wasnt that dark either. I did have to keep stopping and pritt sticking more sheets of a4 onto it to hide where some of the paper was lifting.

Then I put some Blu-ray content on via my ps3 at 1080p/24. I almost fell off the sofa. It looked brilliant (esp in cinema mode). Watched part of Casino Royale and it was like back watching it in the cinema (but without the itchy seats and dodgy smells).

I can not wait to get a proper screen for it now as I guess the picture will be better (and bigger).

I am really glad I bought it but am kicking myself that I didnt do it before now.

What setting do you have your ps3 on? Do you set it to 1080p and let the pj downscale?

Was the projector UK spec? Komplett usually only do european stuff don't they..

PS3 is set to 1080P and PJ is downscaling. That way, blu-ray content is shown at 24fps so no jitter.

Its the AX100E (guessing the E is for Europe). Seemed to be a factory seeled box with both a UK and EU power lead in it. IIRC from the wiuck flick though the manual, both were mentioned in the manual too so I guess there may not be a UK model but and EU model. Any one shed more light on that?

IIRC there is an AX100E for Europe and an AX100U for the USA, but I cannot remember what the differences are.

Until you get a screen you may be better of projecting straight onto the wall - even if it's off white.

For a better effect you could mask (tape) around the projected image and paint a 3" black matt border.

You can always paint over this later or just hang you new screen in front of it.

Just a thought!

Have fun.
