My mum has a DMR-E55 and wants to send me a finalized DVD of the Wimbeldon women's final. Only trouble is that despite what the manual says we can't find the finalize function on the machine! Disk management has only 3 options, and finalize doesn't seem to be there or anywhere else for that matter. She's not that technically minded but we spent hours on the phone searching for it with my mum following the manual to no avail. Anyone who can help here would be my mum's best friend!

Is she using DVD-RAM? If so then there won't be a finalise option!

This model is DVD-RAM only and as such you do not need to finalize the media. However I doubt very much that your DVD player will read it as DVD-RAM can only be read by other Panasonic DVD recorders and some of their later DVD players.

The E-55 is not RAM-only, it also writes to DVD-Rs.

    Finalizing a dvd-r.
    1.Press functions on handset.
    2."Highlight"Disc management, click enter
    3."Highlight" Finalize,click enter
    4."Highlight"Start Finalizing,click enter
    5."Hightlight" Start,click enter
takes about 2 minutes if disc is full,
click enter again. Then the start of disc you
will see the disc now says ram and is ready
    for playing on other machines.
p.s,you only see the disc management when a disc is in.

    OOps

Yes it also writes to DVD-R's which require finalising. I was comparing it to the latest Panny DVDR's which will write also to DVD-RW which need to be finalised.

Must think before writing next time! :suicide:

Ok, so it seems I'm out of luck then? I have a JVC player, so I take it I won't be able to play her unfinalized DVD-RAM disk in my machine, but if I find a late model Panasonic I could be in luck? Otherwise I could get her to record the analogue out to a VCR!!

Any other clues appreciated if there's still hope of somehow playing that disk.

If you are in the UK, and if it's a RAM, aks her to post it to me, with a SAE (your address). I will copy it to my E500's HDD, then back to -R disc for you, and then I will post both (RAMand -R) to you in the SAE, just make sure the envelopes are stamped correctly, use giffy bags if need be.

Very kind offer Ammar, but we're in Australia. My mum in Adelaide and myself in NSW. I did follow one of the links presented and realise that I may have success reading the RAM disk on my G4 mac and authoring a -R disk from that. I'll have a crack at that and see how we go.

Meanwhile, thanks to everyone for your advice.

    Tough luck mate.

The way you want to do it .. I know it can be done. Me, I'd rather walk to Adelaide barefoot backwards with no food or water and collect the thing then reauthor a RAM disk on a PC.

    Good luck to you :)
