so, my girlfriend has broken my samsung LE40R74BDX, thanks to a wii remote into the screen! thankfully i do have household insurance, and someone is coming to look at it from them on tuesday next week. my question is, would i just get a cheque from the insurance company, or would they either buy me a replacement or try and fix it?

i doubt they will try fixing though, as my girlfriend rang samsung, who claimed it would cost a grand to replace the screen!

i ask as im dying to get a new tv, going back to my 15 yr old grundig crt is painful indeed. :suicide:

She obviously ignores all of those wrist strap reminders you get everytime you start a Wii game then!

Most insurance Companies will arrange for a replacement, or nearest equivilent if your set is no longer available, to be sent to you for to reasons...

1 They have very good discounts agreed with large suppliers...far better than you could obtain..

2 Cuts down on fraud. IE if you just got fed up with your set and wanted a new model or larger size, it stops you 'accidently dropping' (or throwing a wii control unit through it!) to get a cheque to put towards a new one. As you will only get an identical set, this does cut down on fraudulent claims....

However, you can normally ask the ins Co if they will let you buy from a particular store (perhaps they are local and you always buy from them) and they will sometimes send you a cheque made out to that retailer, or even direct to you, but it would only be for the amount they could buy the set for themselves, which is likely to be less than you paid for it....

    Hope this helps.....

I'd be surprised if the insurance company actually pay up.

That "accident" was due to negligence

    Hiya

If the Ins Co was going to repudiate the claim, they would probably have done so by now, and would not be sending out a loss adjuster.

This would be classed as an accident by most insurers....If you were having a row and she said she was going to throw the remote through your screen, and she did, then this would be intentional damage, and obviously not covered....

You should always receive the same, or if not available, a better model.

What they will not do is give you a set that costs the same today as yours did two years ago, as that would probably be a far higher spec as prices have come down so much.....but you can always try....

Just be nice to the Loss Adjuster, offer him/her a cup of tea, tell them what an idiot your girlfriend is (not if it is a woman) and try and get the best set out oif them you can.....

When i read the first post i was thinking she did it on purpose lol. The thought of people throwing controllers at the tv when using a Wii has crossed my mind before. I bet this isnt the first case of it happening and wont be the last.

Nintendo should be blamed due to the strap breaking. I take it you have the new "improved" straps? The new batches come with them, otherwise you can get them free from Nintendo.

i think this is the end for my wii now, i cant bear to think it could happen again, heck i may even trade it towards a ps3.

well, the guy who my insurance company asked to come round and see the damage called today. he himself said it will cost more to replace the screen than buy the same tv again. so, now i wait for a reply from thec insurance company again! let me tell you, you really, REALLY miss a hdtv when its gone! my poor 15yr old grundig crt just doesnt cut it. :thumbsdow

the wii is now gone, and been replaced by a ps3! so theres one good thing to come out of this, however it makes me cry out more for a working hdtv to see how good the ps3 really looks!

Tbh I think this is just a photo processing trick.

I can put 10 joypads and remotes and that car toy jamming all over the screen using Photo-Shop or Paint-Shop software... :D
