I picked up my first SLR two weeks ago - a Canon 400D - and today was the first trek to test it out. My fiancee and I took a walk from Harrogate to Knaresborough and I put the camera to the test. I decided to stick with the 18-55mm kit lens the whole day to get used to it and play around with it some. I have a 50mm f/1.8 and 55-200mm lens in the bag, but they stayed put for today.

Here are a couple of my favs from today. This is my first share and so any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Good photos to post. It's apparent your thinking about composition already. I think the train track one has come out really well for this reason, plus the exposure is well balanced between the sky and foreground. I really like that one:thumbsup:.
The field and fence one is also a good composition. Good lead in on the fence, nice framing with the tree on the left and strong shadows on the grass to provide a bit of texture and detail. Just a shame the sky is so clipped, but such are the difficulties of physics.
I like the subject of the two front doors and the climbing shrub is a great addition to the scene. I do think shots like this benefit from being taken from a perfectly head on angle though to maximise the geometry/symmetry that makes it so interesting in the first place.
Deffo on the right tracks though so keep 'em coming.:smashin:

As already some nice composition. My favourite shot is number 3, but I would have cloned out the "black dot" about two thirds of the way along the top of the shot.

Didn't even notice that! Thought it was just dust on my monitor lol. Cloned it out and properly resized the images to maintain sharpness. I think they are looking better now.

For only owning a DLSR for 2 weeks they are very good. I like #1 the most. Maybe finding a slightly better gap so the golfer was completly clear would be better but good idea and well executed.

I think we have lots to look forward to from you. You show great promise.
