A week after buying my first 'proper' camera, I went out today to take my first pictures. The experience with all the settings wasn't quite as daunting as first expected, however, I didn't appreciate I would feel so self-concious taking pictures on your own.

How do people get used to all the funny looks?

Anyway, the pictures are of Manor Park in Aldershot, and taken with a Nikon D80. Looking forward to my next trip now :)

... and a damn fine first efforts they were! Great stuff Chris.

Must be that great lens that you've just bought ;)

My personal favourite is the blue window - very 'Steve Green' :rotfl:

Well done for getting out there. 2,3,4 and 7 are great for me.

p.s. you don't get used to folk looking at you.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Really having a lot of fun but just wasn't prepared for people staring at you. Perhaps I should take a trip to London, where every other person is a tourist :)

Great feeling when you take those first few shots ... good work ... interested in what's happening on the right hand side of no 8 - did you have a grad flter on ? Strange things happening around the tree branches !!

1,2 and 7 for me but they are all nice

when I start feeling as though everyone is watching me I just spin in a big lens and attempt to look like a pro (not that kind of pro..tut tut!) dont know if I achieve it or not but it makes me feel a bit better

    seriously good job

Good efforts but what's going on with the colours in 8 and 10 - they're a bit mental.

As for people watching you - ignore them.

Whoops, 8 was my experimental play, I linked to the wrong version. Does it look better now? 10 I just couldn't get right no matter what I tried. The original was completely washed out and I couldn't get the right balance. I didn't like it but thought I would include it anyway :)

Does this picture work, or does it look wrong?

    That looks very wrong!!!

The original shots are great however, there's a lovely crispness to most of them and natural but punchy colours. Your composition isn't half bad either. Definately ready to move onto more advanced techniques :)

Youll be turning Pro in no time now

You will stop noticing people "staring " as time goes on ..TBH most are from friendly curiousity

Im not sure what happened in your last image.it looks very alien:eek: !

I think you wont be needing "adults beginners class" now ...:hiya:

Don't worry RH, you quoted my post but I changed the original link so it just bought up a big empty box. So I just deleted the incorrect link :)

    ...just a bit,
The backgound still looks "unrelated" to the foreground. A bit like chroma keying gone wrong.. Why not post the unedited one?

Because I'm embarressed to :rotfl: . I think I've learnt that you simply cannot polish a turd, and if its wrong, just delete it rather than waste time on it. Both of my 'tree' pictures are prime examples I think, wheres the delete key :D

Nice first set of images, well done, you seem to have the grasp of things :smashin:

The only slightly negative comment would be that #5 looks way over sharpened to me, otherwise, great.

:smashin: Just remember where you went wrong and get back there to re-shoot :)

Great set of pics UrbanT. My personal fav is the chicks. Lovely colour and detail. What lens were you using out of interest?
