Here are some 3.5mm - 2 phono cables I have just made after following some of the tips I've got from reading this board. I'm pretty chuffed with them to be honest, considering I didn't know how to solder last weekend they've turned out ok. I'll be using 3 of them to connect my new HCPC to my cinema amp.
Parts used:
1 pair of Shark phono plugs from Maplin £3.99
2x 1m Van Damme Starquad microphone cable from Maplin £2.98
1 Screened 3.5mm jack plug (metal body and spring discarded) also from Maplin £0.99
Short length of heatshrink also from Maplin £<0.30
Total cost: less than £9.
I also picked up a bargain soldering iron and an indispensable set of "helping hands" for less than a tenner each.
Regards
Owain
