Mine was a Ford Fiesta MkII. 1.3L GL 3 door model. Guy who had the car before me had the engine re conditioned then fitted with twin choke webber carbs from the standard 1.6L model so it was quite a rapid little motor for its age and condition!

A 1968 SWB Land Rover pick-up in that bluey-grey colour that Landys come in. Oh yeah someone had shoe-horned a 3.5L Rover V8 engine into it :D .

Sold because I didn't have my licence and the b :censored: d examiners kept failing me on my tests for being too cautious. Not hesitant, just cautious.

So if anyone out there has got a Land Rover out there withe reg CWT 481H let me know.

A red 1994 Vauxhall Corsa Swing.

It had an unbelievably weedy 1.2l petrol engine that was even slower than my girlfriends 1980s Citroen Visa diesel! Still it was cheap to buy, cheap to insure and only had one serious breakdown in the 12 months I owned it....

A Ford Escort Mk1 1100 deluxe. (From sometime in the 1960's)

Formerly owned by Raymond Mays of ERA fame (English Racing Automobile). Number plate was ERA... something.

Went like a tractor and broke down every other month.

    FAB 133Y - Mk1 Ford Fiesta 1.1GL - british racing green

Sold the the seats and tailgate to a friend and then the car to a colleage for twice what i originally paid for the car.

Even though I've had a Audi TT, cosworth tuned Ford Puma and a Jag I have never felt that any of them have gone as fast as my fiesta doing 80mph - though admittidaly you needed a steap slope and good tailwind to get to that speed.

The obvious question is,did it ever get to 60?

Mine was a 1971 Morris 1300 'countryman',a fancy name for an estate car with a piece of plastic wood stuck to it.I suspect if I'd taken the wood off it may have hit 70!

Vauxhall Nova 1.2 in a lovely shade of hearing aid beige - cheap, completely reliabe and I loved it to bits! :smashin:

Had the same 1.2 engine as Squiffy's Corsa but from the days before Vauxhall had to put a cataclysmic convertor on it which strangled all the power out of it - it was surprisingly pokey for a little engine that achieved 45 mpg on the one journey when i wasn't thrashing the a*se off it! (Nan was in the passenger seat)

My mate with an MG Metro was always gutted that i could beat him away from the lights.

I saw it a year after I sold it and it had been involved in a crash and was starting to go rusty - i was gutted :(

    Ford Orion 1.4 in red.

Total pile of crap but it was my first car so I do have a little bit of affection for it.

It was a complete rust bucket, when driving if I took my hands off the wheel it would veer off to the left. Clutch was knackered too.

he obviously didn't know how to drive one properly ;). I had a silver MG metro (pre-faclift) as a company car in my first job. Came complete with red seatbelts and MG badges liberally plastered everywhere.

It handled like a go cart and I thrashed the life out of it, but with only 4 gears and ancient mini mechanicals it was very noisy.

The first car I ever bought was a Citroen 2 CV. Brilliant and awful in equal measure. Supremely comfortable and with the soft top down a sunny day a perfect summer car. Only problem was winter weather - as it had virtually no heating, lousy brakes, iffy weather proofness and a tendency to rust profusely.

Even though I ended up getting a new chassis fitted to it I was still very fond of it and was sorry to see it go.

    Chris

I really want to get a Land Rover for my first car! I'm thinking I will probably get a 90 Turbo Diesel. They are still quite expensive though!

And insurance as well......cheapest I have found is £1800 with Nationwide. Most companies quote around £3200!!!

Snap Chris - my first car was a 2CV - well actually the Citroen Diane which was meant to be the upmarket version!!! Yeah right  Bright yellow too. Everyone else I knew had cars bought for them, my Dad lent me the £150 quid to buy it and had the money back when I sold it..... swine  I still haven't forgiven him all these years later

However I loved that car. And all my mates loved it too....as you said Chris, perfect summer car with the roof down. And if you can drive that you can drive anything!! No speed what so ever....unless you were going down hill with the wind behind you and then it was a max of about 70 :D Dashboard gears that are back to front...pull back for first, up for 2nd etc. I took my test in that car and the intructors face was a picture when he realised. I'm sure he only passed me through sheer fear!! Funnier than that though was the time that we were ''posing'' (as much as is possible in a 2CV) with the roof down....sun went in, clouds came out and the rain started. Have you ever tried to pull the roof up on a car thats travelling at about 50mph???? Acted as a wind break, speed dropped to about 10mph in seconds.... :rotfl:

    Aaahhh such good memories.
