    I finally done a deal on a BarcoData 808s :D
Roland at B4 projection has just got a large consigment (40+) of various models in!.
I was originally after a Barco "Graphics" 808s, but after some research i realised the Barco "Data" 808s is more or less the same machine.
    The differences are (upto):-
    Data- Horizontal scan is 69/75khz
    Graphics- Horizontal scan 110khz
The vertical is the same for both (200hz)

    RGB band width:-
    Data- 75mhz
    Graphics- 120mhz

    in real term this means:-
    Data- 1280x1024 @ 60hz
    Graphics 1600x1200 @ 60hz

Since the highest i will be using is 1280x720 @ 72/75 the Data can manage this fine.
In normal use with the PC it will be run mainly in 1024x768 at 75hz.

The only other difference between the two is the lack of Scheimpflug adjustment ie corner to corner focus. Since Roland is fitting it, this is of no use to me anyway. It just means Roland has a little more work!.

They both have Iris2 but again of no use to me due to Roland installing it. But may be handy in the future if i lose/cockup the settings. Plus it may make it easier to sell on.

So given the option of either machine, the price of the Data was to good to miss. I would have been paying more for the "Graphics" for features i may never need.
Don't get me wrong, if the Data and Graphics were the same price/condition i would have the Graphics everytime for the "Just in case factor".

For the time being, this will be partnered with a Quadscan Elite scaler, connected to the DVD player/Digital cable box. SDi will have to wait!.

I will also use the PC as a HTPC again.

I will post back here with a full review of the install/picture quality etc. (those infamous blacks! )

    Now I'm worried.
He seems more excited that I'm going than he is about getting his projector.

    Hi Nic.
Any closer to having your beast installed?.
I managed to get the Aircon/heating unit installed!.
I have just over a week to wait!.:D
As for Roland doing the install, well i would'nt care if Guy Fawkes did it himself as long as it's as good!.

I've ordered the Quadscan Elite due to the fact that i intend to do more watching and less tweaking. The HTPC will be mainly for messing and demos etc.

But future upgrades will be centred around a Vigatec/Rock+ sort of thing via SDI.

Roland mentioned that you were getting it done. Hopefully he'll be installing mine the day after, providing I can get the Damned HTPC working.

Did you have a demo at home? I went to Spectres and Roland set up the BG808 I was interested in. I was stunned by the quality at 1280 x 720. I jut hope I can get my PC set up as well so I can enjoy it as much.

I will obviously no be showing off to my friends at all!

Good luck with the install, not that you need it with Roland on the job.

Let us know how it's going!

    Cheers

    Nick
